Second CSA Delivery

Yesterday, we received our second CSA delivery. We are on the bi-weekly schedule, and I was very excited to get the box. In fact, I couldn’t wait to check out this week’s box. I know I pay for it, but it almost feels like getting a present. Anyway, here is what we got:

  • Navel oranges
  • Ruby grapefruit
  • Comice pears
  • Fuji apples
  • Savoy cabbage
  • Butternut squash
  • Lacinato kale
  • Green leaf lettuce
  • Cilantro
  • Garlic
  • Leeks

It feels really good to eat organic produce that’s in season and to support local farmers. I signed up for the bi-weekly delivery because I wanted to make sure we’d like it. But I’m already thinking of changing it to the weekly delivery. We eat so many fruits and veggies each week that even if we get a weekly delivery, we can still make good use of the farmers’ markets (which is such a nice experience for the toddler, and I still want to support my "other" local farmers).

Question: What’s your favorite fruit and veggie at the moment? I love grapefruit and kale right now.

Happy Saturday!

Be well,

  1. What a beautiful array of veggies and fruit. My favourite fruit right now is honeycrisp apples. They seem to be around a lot longer this year and I'm taking advantage of it.

  2. I love spinach and strawberries!

    What a great stash!

  3. That's great! I can imagine it feels like a present...I kind of want a bi-weekly veggie surprise.

  4. It looks awesome. That is so great that you get this. If you like it totally go for weekly. I love kiwis and could eat them all day long, but I just bought some frozen cheeries. I love to munch on frozen fruit (like peaches) so I think these will be tasty.

  5. It is a present every week, isn't it?!

  6. Beautiful looking produce! I'd love to hear what you do with each item.

  7. Your experience with CSA is so much better (or at least it seems) than ours here in Ohio! I'd love to do it again, we just didn't get the same variety of foods that you do.

At the moment, my favorite vegetable is still spaghetti squash, but I'm also loving the sweet potatoes! As for fruit, oranges. I keep finding some great ones with no seeds, and they are perfect.

  8. Look at fresh produce. Deliciousness. Right now i'm currently in an avocado kick. Then thinking about it I'm always on an avocado kick.

That is one of my goals this weekend -- look into CSA's near me. The produce looks WONDERFUL!!

Right now, I am loving pears and clementines!

  10. great loot! i'm all about squash - acorn, butternut, etc.

  11. I love grapefruit and kale right now.= ME TOO!!! I post about them all the time!

Bananas, pineapple, apples...nothing exotic but hey, it's winter.
And always kale or dark leafies, and tomatoes and cauli and brock. too. :)

  12. Your delivery looks fantastic! I'm loving butternut squash right now.

  13. What a fun delivery! I am addicted to kale right now and oddly enough Mangos.

I almost bought a butternut squash the other day but passed because I was trying to keep to my list.

    but it looked good

  14. I'm loving sweet ptoatoes, kabocha, and Fuji apples at the moment. But I still have yet to try a Honeycrisp apple. Are they really worth the price?

  15. oooh I'm so excited for you and the CSA! I'm loving learning and trying new squashes!

  16. I'm loving oranges right now. They are pricey but so yummy!

I am so jealous that you are part of a CSA - I wish we had one around here.

  17. That's a nice set up you've got there =)

I don't think I could possibly pick a favorite of any food. It's all so very yummy!

I hope you enjoyed the weekend!

  18. Definitely kale is up there at the top for me. And golden carrots that taste so unbelievably sugary sweet.

  19. That's a nice looking delivery. Right now I'm all over clementines. I can't leave them alone!!

  21. i HAVE to remember to sign up this year...i forget to do it every year! which is horrible, because how can you feel bad about getting organic produce from local farmers? its amazing!

    fave fruit: pineapple!

    veggie: any type of squash!
