Raw Peach Cobbler

Since I did my first Conscious Cleanse 1.5 years ago, I have been cleaning up my meals a lot because when I eat mostly according to the rules of the Conscious Cleanse, I feel my best.

Years ago, one of my favorite desserts was fruit cobbler, especially peach cobbler. But it was definitely a splurge food, containing lots of sugar, butter, flour, and eggs.

Eating healthy doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy the flavors of your favorite dishes. You just have to modify the dishes a bit. I therefore experimented with making a raw peach cobbler. This one is definitely a winner – flavorful, yet healthy and “clean.” It may not be the ideal food while you are cleansing as it combines nuts and fruits, but it’s a good choice while getting ready for a cleanse or the rest of the year.

Raw Peach Cobbler

Servings: Three
  • 1/3 – 1/2 cup raisins – I used Trader Joe’s raisin medley – make sure the raisin you buy don’t have added sugar!
  • 1 tablespoon nut butter – I used raw almond butter
  • 1/3 – 1/2 cup pecans
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • a pinch of salt
  • 4 peaches
  • 1 –2 teaspoons lemon juice
  1. Slice three peaches into bite-size pieces and layer them into small serving dishes.
  2. Take the pit out of one peach and process it in a food processor with the lemon juice.
  3. Spread the pureed peach over the layered peaches.
  4. Puree the raisins, nut butter, cinnamon, salt, and pecans in the food processor until the mixture is crumbly.
  5. Crumble the raisin/nut mixture over the peaches.
  6. Put the cobbler into the fridge for at least 30 minutes so it can set.
  7. Enjoy!
We all like this healthy, flavorful dessert. The riper and more flavorful the peaches are, the better the cobbler. This cobbler certainly makes eating healthy a joy.

Summer is a Great Time for a Conscious Cleanse

I have done the Conscious Cleanse numerous times – in winter, spring, summer and late fall. There are different benefits of doing the cleanse at different times of the year, such as:
  • starting the new year off the best you can in January
  • welcoming spring by eating fresher foods after a few too many heavier winter meals
  • getting ready for summer in June
  • cleaning things up before the fall and winter holidays so that you can truly enjoy the holiday season, feeling your best.

While there are always benefits to cleansing, I have found that summer cleanses are more “natural” for me and are easier for several reasons:
  • When it’s warm, it feels natural to start the day with a big, 32 ounce green smoothie
  • I gravitate more toward raw foods and salads when it’s warm or hot outside
  • Fresh fruits and veggies are at their peak and cheaper than other times of the year
  • While summer food can be very healthy (think fresh fruits and veggies – perfect cleanse foods!), there are also many bbq’s, parties, ice cream and other indulgences that don’t make us feel our best. A cleanse is a great way to focus on the healthy, delicious summer fruits and veggies.
