Spinach Wrap with an Extra Kick

I said yesterday that I have been getting a bit bored with spinach lately. Don't get me wrong, I still love spinach, but I realized that I had to look for ways to spice it up a bit. I frequently make myself a wrap with lots of spinach for lunch. When I was at the store, I realized that I haven't had arugula in a long time. I thought arugula would be just what my wrap needed to make a bit more interesting.

I started with a sprouted wheat tortilla

to which I added olive hummus and some turkey

and lots of spinach and arugula.

Look at my beautiful wrap. It was delicious!

The arugula was just what it needed!

Question: What are some ways you spice up your food?

  1. Is arugula relly THAT good?? I mean, that's a whole lot of arugula!! My goodness. I trust you though, you never cease to amaze me!

    I like to spice things up by adding some of my favorite SPICES...Garlic, turmeric, curry, pepper, cinnamon, and balsamic vinegar (not a spice, but you get it). I added balsamic vinegar to my cooked spinach the other day, plus some garlic, and it tranformed the dish!

  2. i love crushed red pepper and hot sauce. and cayenne :) but not as much as my husband does! He always adds too much.

  3. I am big on spices. (Although none of the hot ones... I don't like hot.) Garlic and Cinnamon are my two big ones. (Although honestly, I sometimes add a dash of cocoa to my cooking... it gives it something special, and you could never guess it's cocoa!)

  4. I love sprouted grain tortillas. I love the chewy texture of them. My favourite go to for spicing up warm food is crushed red pepper flakes. It's an easy way to make my dish a little spicy and leave the rest of it milder for my daughter. For cold food, if it needs a kick, I use pickled peppers, jalapeno or hot banana peppers, whichever would make your sense with the dish.

  7. I'm a spinach lover like you!! I decided to do the same thing with arugula. I liked the peppery bite to it!

    Love your combo of olive hummus and turkey! That sounds so good:)

    Or. I throw in a spicy veggie burger and cheese. Yumz.

  10. I add pepper and mustard if I need to spice things up! Your idea of using lots of greens is great because then you get bulk and crunch!

    I added something spicy - like tabaso, sriracha, or red pepper flakes.

    I spice up my food with different sauces/condiments- Hummus, salsa, tzatziki, cranberry relish, pumpkin butter, teriyaki sauce, pesto...

  14. Yummy spinach. I always try to change up ways I used ingredients. I try to add a different sauce or cook it up in a new way I haven't tried before.

  16. ISn't arugula kind of bitter? I think it would pair well with some sweet stuff, like figs or apples or something.
    But I love the freshness and greeness of the wrap!

    i looove arugala I got it at the farmers market the other week and it was so tasty and bitter I love the flavor of it!

  19. Fresh herbs do it for me -- some basil, sage, dill, or oregano do wonders. That and flavored vinegars add so much to so many dishes.

  23. Arugula is a favorite vegetable of mine -- I top off my pizzas with fresh arugula - YUM! I love spicy mustard and canola oil light mayonnaise on sandwiches. Oh, and garlic...always garlic to spice up food with flavor!

  24. Your wrap looks great. Similar to how I do mine. Lots of veggies and hummus!! Yum.

    I tend to spice up my foods with lots of condiments such as salsa, dressing, hummus, cheese, hot sauce, dips, guacamole, etc.. I have way too many condiments at home.
