Wellness Wednesday

As some of you know, last month I started writing wellness posts on Wednesdays on Career Action Now. I have adopted a pretty “broad” definition of wellness for my posts, but I think wellness at work and when  planning your career incorporates many different aspects. On today’s post on Career Action Now, I write about how eating healthy foods can positively impact your career. If you think that’s a stretch, have you ever been in an interview without having eaten enough and then all you could think about was how hungry you were? Or your stomach started growling? It once happened to me many, many years ago during one of my first interviews. Not a pleasant feeling for more than one reason…

And in case you are interested, here are my previous Wellness Wednesday posts on Career Action Now:
Questions: What are you doing to be well today? Are you taking enough breaks? Are you getting some exercise? Are you fueling your body with healthy foods? Have you laughed yet today?

Be well,
Andrea

  1. Andrea, this is a fantastic list of posts to stay well at work. These days, I find I need to make time to get enough physical activity to ensure clarity of mind and wellness. I'm getting closer to that as the weather improves.

  2. Thank you for this incredible wealth of resources in your great posts... I love how you include laughing as a wellness componant! SO TRUE!! And exercise, of course - I'm looking forward to exercising outside, in the beautiful spring weather, when I leave work today...

  3. Love that you're looking at wellness broadly - it is a broad thing and, to me, is defined differently to each individual.

Today i'm taking a break from walking during lunch. After 4.5 miles Sunday, 5 Monday and 6 yesterday, i'm going to chill during lunch and go for 4 after work! My legs are sore and need a break! Then tonight i'm going to book club - looking forward to a glass of wine with my girls!

  4. I love your writings about living a balanced and healthy life. You seem to have so much wisdom and knowledge to offer. I'm glad to have your blog for such a constant inspiration!
Today I'm just trying to eat as many colorful fruits and vegetables as possible. The sun is trying to peek through the clouds so I'm planning on heading out for a long walk.
    Enjoy your day!

  6. My stomach rumbles in ANY situation where being silent/professional is important. So awkward!

I laugh everyday...and am working on the rest. So far, I have eaten well, been to the gym and gotten some fresh air. :)

  9. I made sure to lift weights in the gym today. It's so important for the future of my body and I tend to neglect doing it.

  11. Very cool that you have been writing these posts. I am actually exercising in the gym 4-5 days a week for 50-60 minutes each day and it is nice for my stress levels.

  12. Ooh good timing as I am on the hunt for my career at present :)

Today I'm living well by eating until I'm 80% full, doing yoga for the first time in WAY too long, and wrapping up some work that I'd been putting off. It makes me feel good.

  13. Ah, blog Zen :) You're wonderful, Andrea!

Thanks for your comment yesterday, by the way :)

I did take a break at work today for once. I tried going to the library to catch up on blogs...but all the computers were taken. It was still nice to get out, though. I need to do it more! And I got in a 4 1/2 mile run and a healthy, DELICIOUS meal! And now I'm having "me time" -- first time in weeks. Feels great :)

  15. I think what we eat or what we don't eat can definitely affect our performance and mood in our jobs.
I ususally laugh everyday with my coworkers. It is nice that we can joke around at work.
    Have a great day!

  18. To be well, today, (even though it's no longer WEdnesday....) I am doing a fitness assessment!! I am finding out if I AM well..I guess. They will weight me, do a body fat check, and then test my strength and endurance. I'm nervous!!

  20. Ah laughing...I laugh every morning. My husband and I laugh every morning before we both head out to work. We're busy (as is everyone) and we make sure to always sit together and have breakfast - which always includes laughs. I have a good day of food planned and a workout, so it's a pretty healthy day!

  22. Great post! I'll be sure to check out some of your other wellness posts. I am in an office with four ladies who always make me laugh, so laughing comes easily at work. My other wellness efforts include lots of exercise this week. I did cycling in the am and zumba in the pm yesterday. This evening I'll be running.

  23. Thanks for sharing all your articles! I went and read that Self article about doing what needs to be done for a writing career. It's very timely since I'm thinking about trying to freelance once Jason and I start a family. I've been doing a lot of research about the practicalities, but it was nice to read about the personal, emotional benefits of doing something you love.

  24. Just getting caught up! I have to say, that sashimi on Monday looked so awesome! I don't know if I'll get any exercise today but I definitely laughed. My nephew is visiting. He is 4 and he makes me laugh every time I see him. :)
