The Power of A Positive Attitude

If you have read this blog for a while, you know that I believe in the power of a positive attitude. A positive attitude (or lack therefore) affects all aspects of our lives, and having a positive attitude hugely affects our happiness.

Do you have a positive attitude in life? How about when it comes to work? My Wellness Wednesday post on Career Action Now focuses on the importance of a positive attitude when it comes to your career and highlights an article that lists six things you can do to be happier at work now. I also describe how keeping a gratitude list helped me through uncertainties while I was in grad school. If you are interested, head over there and check it out.

Also, I have been getting a few questions as to what I used to do for a living and what I’m doing now. I used to work in several law firms in different capacities, from legal secretary to paralegal, for over fifteen years. For the past several years, I have been working as a college instructor.

Question: What brings you joy? I always try to have some inexpensive flowers on the dining room table; they always bring a smile to my face… :-) I also have bright, uplifting photos of flowers as well as low-maintenance plants in my office.

  2. Simply put and very well said. Positivity is so important in order to find happiness. Anything can be turned into positive given the right mindset. This is definitely my philosophy in life!

  3. I'm with you and think that our thoughts are SOOOO powerful! Exercising, having meals with my husband and being surrounded by a positive community bring me joy!

  4. True dat! I sometimes find myself getting negative and, when I change my attitude, everything seems to fall into place (or at least in a much better place).

    I think a positive attitude has a huge impact on both mental and physical health :) It affects everything we do.

    What brings me joy? Friends, family, music, dancing, funny TV shows, learning new things and sunshine.

  6. Joy and happiness sometimes seem so fleeting, but learning to find the joy in hard situations has really made me feel peace, both in spiritually and emotionally.

  11. my family, friends and BF bring me joy! I always try to have a positive attitude and SMILE! smiling and being happy is infectious so I always try to make those around me happy as well!

  12. I try to keep a positive attitude all the time. Every morning the first thing I do is think of something good. It helps me get through the day.

    I try to be positive all the time but that isn't always the case.
    This might sound silly, but my pets bring me so much joy. Since I live by myself, it gives me something to look forward to and they always put a smile on my face.

  14. What brings me joy? It can be something as simple as a bite of a great piece of dark chocolate or the sun coming out after days of gray. It can be something as frivolous as scoring a cute pair of shoes on sale. Or it can be something as sentimental as savoring a favorite dish that my Mom used to make and that I can still recreate in her memory.

  15. it's hard to be positive sometimes (because it's so much easier to be negative) but it does help ALOT.

  17. Being positive takes so much less energy than being negative does. I like that you keep flowers around. A friend of mine does that, too.

    I beleive I have a positve attitude. I do this by choosing happiness. Happiness is not always a choice, but often it is. If you choose to see the good, the positive, the bad and negative aspects of life are a lot easier to handle.

    I too keep fresh flowers most of the time in my kitchen, right now it's white tulips.

  19. I have candid pictures of my grandkids around the house and looking at them brings me joy.

  20. Reading a good book, spending time with hubby, good coffee, beautiful photo's, animals, blogging, and good food! Those things bring me happiness.....there is a longer list though...he he!

    I am new here. I love your thoughts! Thanks for sharing. :)

    I used to have a very negative outlook (influenced by my family/surroundings). But over the years (moving to another continent etc. later) I have become incredibly positive. And I know what most of this transformation came from within, even though the pessimists in family like to believe I simply got lucky...

    It makes me happy to make others happy. :) And to be out in nature. Just closing my eyes and smelling the air, feeling the wind. Eating is also a great source of joy for me, especially making food for others! I also love cleaning, haha and learning new things. Overcoming little challenges I set for myself. :) I could go on and on. Thanks for the great question!

  22. Andrea, thanks so much for the link to "Career Action Now" . the article was so fantastic and I will be showing it to our workplace wellness clients. I like learning about these other websites that may be beneficial to our business by focusing on something other than nutrition!

    I think it's so important to focus on the positive, rather than the negative. My car got hit the other day and instead of staying mad, I focus on the fact that a) I wasn't in the car, b) the damage COULD have been worse, and c) I have insurance!! This positive focus really helped.
