Weekend Fun and Some Green Juice

The weather was beautiful, so we headed to the beach again.

I haven’t been juicing a lot lately, and I really started to crave some green juice. When we got some collard greens in our CSA box, I decided to use them to make some green juice.

Ingredients

  • 1 bunch collard greens
  • 2 apples
  • 3 Meyer lemons

The lemons and the apples made the juice a lot “less green,” but it still had quite a strong flavor from the collard greens. I probably wouldn’t buy collard greens to juice (at least not without a lot of other “stuff” to “mellow out” the flavor), but since they were in my CSA box, it was  a good use for them, and I enjoyed the juice. The toddler kept on saying how bitter and sour the juice was, but he kept drinking quite a bit of it…

Next time, I’ll make one of my favorite juice combos.

Questions: Have you ever had green juice? If so, did you like it? What’s your favorite green juice combo? I like adding cucumbers. They make a lot of juice, and I like the flavor. I also like adding lots of lemons as they really make the juice taste “less green”… What was the highlight of your weekend?

Be well,
Andrea

  4. I want warm weather now!!!

My favorite drink - few handfuls of baby spinach, 1/2 cup orange juice, frozen mango chunks with a few frozen strawberries and 1 carrot!

    It's amazing!

  6. Gorgeous! This makes me miss the beach, and summer, soo bad! I love green juice. I actually just had a green juice cocktail the other day at a friends promotional party. It was surprisingly delicious and so refreshing.

  7. You had beautiful weather this weekend Andrea.

I never make juices with vegetables, I just don't like it. Never made a green smoothie for that reason too.

  8. I do like green juice, my favorite combo is cucumber, celery, lemon, green peppers and romaine. However, whenever I drink it, I feel cold afterwards, which means it's too ying (according to chinese medicine) for me during winter, so I only juice in summer. :)

highlight of the weekend? I got an Ipad! :)

  14. I just bought a juicer! I am posting about it soon but I wanted some ideas. For some reason I feel like my juicer warned against juicing apples...yours might be a better model (mine was only $60). I have only made OJ so far, and it was the best OK I have ever had! I definitely want to try a juice with collard greens, or kale, or spinach!

  15. So jealous that you got to enjoy the beach! It's so cold here. I wish it were spring! :)

I love green juice, but I usually use kale (recently tried swiss chard, too!). I also include a banana, which adds some sweetness. :)

  16. @Gina: Yes, I have heard that some juicers can't handle apples and harder fruits and veggies. In fact, one of my friends broke hers with a lot of hard fruit... I have a Breville, which I bought on sale a few years ago. It does a great job with apples and really anything I can think of putting in it... :)Can't wait to see all the juice combos you'll come up with! Happy juicing!
