Strawberry Banana Frozen Treat

Ever since I discovered “banana soft serve” on blogs almost two years ago, I buy bananas like crazy as I put any bananas that are getting too ripe into the freezer. Since I only have a mini food processor, I make sure to cut the bananas into small pieces before freezing them as my “baby processor” can’t handle big pieces.

The other day, I felt like something different than usual. I had added cocoa, cinnamon and other spices to the bananas before, but this time I felt like something more fruity, so I was thrilled to “find” some frozen strawberries in the freezer (I’m currently on a mission to clean out the freezer and the pantry, but that’s another post…).

Strawberry Banana Soft Serve

Ingredients
  • 6 small frozen strawberries
  • 2 frozen bananas

Put the strawberries in the food processor and puree them (defrosting them for just a minute helps if your food processor has a hard time). Add the bananas. Process until smooth.

Enjoy!

Questions: Have you ever made banana soft serve? What’s your favorite variation of it? Straight (only bananas)? With cocoa? With cinnamon? With other fruits? Anything else I’m missing out on? I really liked the added strawberries. I had never added other fruits, but I sure will experiment now. I’m thinking blueberries will be next! Hubby declared that he can’t imagine anything better than strawberry banana and said he could eat it every day for the rest of his life. I’ll remember not to share the blueberry banana with him… Winking smile Just kidding…

Be well,
Andrea

  3. Yummy! I love this stuff, I also like the strawberry/banana combo and I add 1/3 cup Fat Free Greek yogurt to mine.

Chocolate is right up there at the top of my list,I got the idea from Marisa @ Loser for Life to add 2-3 teaspoons cocoa,a little Stevia and my addition of 1/3 cup FF Greek yogurt and your frozen banana. Divine!

I like the little bit of creaminess that the Greek yogurt adds as well as the addition of a little protein.

This is one of the healthiest soft serves I can think of.

  4. This is a really good idea! I like that I can have a good healthy and fruity treat anytime it occurs to me. Also bananas are so creamy and satisfying that it's better than just any other snack.

  12. I keep so many fruits in the freezer like you do (and I'm also trying to clean out said freezer!!). I have made banana softserve for 'real' people ie not dieters and they LOVE LOVE LOVE it! I've only ever done it straight up, but you can def. add powders if you are into that like sugarfree fat free butterscotch pudding or vanilla. Or you could do a chai with all of the usual suspects.

One day I'd like to challenge myself to actually just eat out of the freezer and pantry for a whole month (buying produce of course). Never seems to happen though. :-/

  13. I once saw someone on a blog credit another blogger with banana soft serve and I nearly died laughing. Really crediting someone with putting a banana in a food processor. I get giving credit where credit is due but when the ingredient list is a banana? I usually put cottage cheese with it to add some protein. I'll have to try it with strawberries sometime!

  15. Mmm! That looks so pretty.

My favourite "banana soft serve" is with cocoa powder, cinnamon, and a little vanilla extract. Sometimes I add chocolate protein powder instead of cocoa powder for added protein.

  19. Seriously, I'm making this, right now!! Yep, we have about 4 bananas that are going bad and I'm going to put them in the freezer NOW! We don't have frozen strawberries but I do have blueberries...perhaps I'll make a slight variation. This sounds wonderful!!

  23. I eats lots of banana soft serve in the summer. My favourite thing is to stir fresh blueberries in at the end. They freeze slightly and get a nice crunch to them. I've also added walnuts which was very good!
