Transitioning into Fall with an Olive Blouse

Olive Blouse for Fall

Olive is a popular color for fall and a color I like a lot. I’m very glad that I picked up an olive blouse last year on sale at LOFT as I have already worn it several times in the last week or so, and I know I’ll wear it a lot this fall.

First, I thought I’d transition my black and white striped maxi skirt into fall by wearing it with the olive blouse on a day when it was a bit cooler, especially in the early morning and evening.

I got the maxi skirt about six years ago, but I have seen similar skirts every year. In fact, the day I wore my skirt I saw two women who wore almost identical ones. I think maxi skirts never really go out of style and neither do stripes.

I also tried tucking the blouse in, which I think I like better.

I did just a bit of pattern mixing by wearing my windowpane flats with the striped skirt.

I also wore the blouse open with a black tee and capris jeans. The light layer is perfect for early fall. Right now it’s still often quite warm here in the middle of the day, and I like that I can wear the blouse only in the mornings and evenings and take it off in the middle of the day if it gets too hot. And when it gets a bit cooler, I can add my black cargo jacket.

I wore the blouse with a tee and jeans when we ran some errands at and around Santana Row. Of course I had to ask Andy to take some photos in front of one of my favorite walls there.

I also wore my black and white necklace.

And I carried my Rebecca Minkoff Dog Clip Saddle Bag. I have carried the bag every single day since I’ve gotten it (for school drop off, running errands, out on walks, etc). I really don’t know what I did before I bought it. Well, I do know. I carried an old, worn out cross body bag that has since been recycled…

Andy and I also made time for a quick lunch at The Counter. It was nice to sit outside, enjoy a good meal and catch up on life a bit.

I look forward to playing with the blouse more in the coming weeks and sharing how I'll style it with you.

Here are some olive blouses and tops that I like (some of them are currently on sale):

Questions: Do you like olive? Do you own an olive blouse or an olive top? Are there any other olive items in your closet, or are you planning on adding any to your closet?

  4. Hi Andrea
I love how you styled the top both ways as a type of jacket and a top with the long maxi skirt. I am a fan of olive, as I love most shades of green, olive is perfect for transitioning to fall. Your lunch looks good too! :-)
Stop by if you have a chance as I reviewed some luxury skin care.

  7. I adore olive and this top looks like a real winner.

I'm drooling over that bag though. Looks like just the size I like and since I always require hands free I may have to check this out.

  8. I do love the olive green lately too!! I just bought a pair of jeans that color---they seem like a perfect neutral!
I love how you added print shoes with the maxi---very adventurous (in my book!)---and I agree---I like the shirt tucked in a little better with the maxi!!
And wearing the shirt as a outer layer is such a great advantage of a button up blouse!

The shoe/skirt print mixing seems so natural now but would have been foreign to me just a year ago... :-)

  14. Andrea I love the first styling you did with the pretty olive shirt and maxi as it's a look I would wear too. Especially with those cheeky little patterned shoes - good play my lovely! Maxi's never do seem to go out of fashion which is great as we can keep bringing them out of the back of our closets and they still look bang on trend. Have a great week x

  21. Andrea, I bought an olive top from Chico's last year and I LOVE wearing it. Mine is a pullover, with a zipper at the neckline that goes down a few inches in the front. The fabric is silky looking and the sleeves can be long or rolled and button up for 3/4 length. I wear it casually and dressed up. It's one of my favorites!

  30. I love this color on you! I don't have anything in olive, but I'm thinking I have to change that. The blouse looks good with the skirt, but my favorite part of the outfit is the skirt and shoes! Love the patterns together! Great idea.

I really love the blouse as a second layer with the tank and the jeans, so cute! I need to try this with a few of my blouses, great look for transition into cooler weather!

Last year they had quite a few army style jackets, light-weight in olive. I am kicking myself for not picking one up!

    1. Thanks, Nikki! I think olive is such a nice neutral that you can always wear regardless if it's an "in color" at the moment. Blouses as a second layers work really well here in California until about the end of October. They prevent me from getting too hot mid morning... Since olive was a popular color last fall, there were quite a few olive items on major sale in January/February. That's when I picked up this blouse (as well as my olive jacket, which didn't turn out quite as well...).
