Floral Dress with Black Turtleneck and Faux Leather Jacket & Wine Club Release Party at Murrieta's Well

I’ve been reading a lot of blog posts about wearing sweaters over dresses and thereby creating a whole new look. That gave me the idea to wear my black turtleneck over my dark floral dress from H&M.

My faux black leather moto jacket from Metrostyle worked well with the outfit. I wore comfortable boots and added my big faux pearl necklace.

Livermore Wine Country

I wore the outfit to our wine club release and pick-up party at Murrieta’s Well in Livermore. It was also an opportunity for Andy and me to go on a date, something we hadn’t done in many months.

We were first introduced to Murrieta’s Well wines about 12 years ago when we tasted them at our friends’ house. But we didn’t join the wine club until late last year as a gift to ourselves instead of birthday and Christmas gifts. I love the idea that each pick up party is a built-in date, especially since we are really bad about making time for dates. Plus, we can visit the winery for free tastings throughout the year.

Murrieta’s Well is not only a great winery because of their delicious wines but also because the space is so nice. There are two tasting areas as well as an exclusive area for wine club members. And during wine club release parties, the winery is closed to the public, so you get to enjoy the entire property.

Luckily, on the day of the release party, the rain took a break and we got to enjoy the outside seating area. It was just warm enough to hang out outside, especially once we moved to a sunny spot.

There are six wines served during the release party, and five of them are paired with an appetizer.

So glad we got to spend some quality time together and enjoy some good wine and delicious food.

Questions: Do you ever wear a sweater over a dress? What was the last date you went on?

Be well,

  1. Sounds like a wonderful date night! I like the top layered over the dress, it's a nice combination with the darker florals. I find this look tricky to wear as tops don't always hit me at a flattering point, being petite. But I have a couple of cropped knits I wear it with and like the look :)

Hope you are having a wonderful weekend :)

    1. Thanks, Mica! It was really nice to have some quality time together. I sometimes have the problem that tops are too short... I'm short-waisted, and short tops and sweaters look out of proportion...

      Have a wonderful week!
We had a low key weekend but unfortunately didn't get as much done as I would have liked to...

  3. What a fabulous date night, Andrea!!
We try to go on one at least once a month---but it's easier for us, since we don't have kids, LOL!
I love this trick of putting a sweater over a dress. I remember when I first saw it on a blogger, it was like a V-8 moment!! In fact, all 3 of us on the blog are showing the same thing in 2 weeks!!

  5. I love this outfit and would happily wear all of it. Eclectic and fun, as well as the date. Oh how I wish I hadn't developed an allergy to alcohol. I used to love doing this kind of thing. My husband and I went on a wine tour in Australia that I adored.

Of course my last date was Cuba : ) Since my husband lives in Hong Kong now we don't get a chance to date much.

    1. I didn't know you had an allergy to alcohol! Your Cuba vacation sounds nice (minus the pinched nerve!).

And I can imagine that living on different continents makes dates a bit difficult...

  9. Love this! I always wanted to to add a shirt over a dress, but turns out my shirts are semi-see through because I always see the dress under my shirt...BOO!

  10. It sounds like you had a lovely day at the winery and isn't marvelous how adding a layer on top of or underneath a dress can completely transform it? Your styling of your floral dress looks so lovely and perfect for a cooler winter day. I did the sweater over dress trick last Fall for added warmth when I went to NYC last Fall. Thank you for sharing your look on my Fine-Whatever link up.

  13. Wow what a lovely event, and you've picked the perfect outfit to wear - I love it. I've worn a jumper over a tunic a couple of times, but not a dress! Going to try this out, because I like how it looks. Happy middle of the week. x

  14. The outfit is just my style. Great idea getting another use out of a dress. I do so like floral and rock chic. I'd definitely wear that. As for a date, weve taken to going out Sunday afternoons, as my readers may know, as they set me the task:)

  17. Andrea, I've worn a cardigan over a dress, but never a full sweater, very cool idea. It makes the dress look totally different and it would really extend your wardrobe. The winery is beautiful, it looks like a lovely place to sneak away for a date. The outside areas are gorgeous. The food looks delish too! I'm not sure when we had our last proper date, we are home most evenings just us. The kids are usually working. We sit down for dinner together and watch Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy. LOL We are really getting wild in our old age. I think we need to plan something soon!
