California Beaches in Winter

Wishing you all a Healthy and Happy 2017!

In the last few weeks we were fortunate enough to spend some time at the beach. We live close to the beach (45 minutes without traffic), yet we only make it there a few times a year, which I’m hoping to change.

Winter is a great time to visit the beaches in Northern California and on the Central Coast as there isn’t a lot of fog in the mornings, and it’s often quite mild. Some of our favorite beach memories are from visits in the winter.

We often spend time around Christmas at the beaches on the Central Coast near San Luis Obispo, and we did so again this year. I made sure we got a family photo taken while we were there. We have so few photos with all of us.

Christmas 2016

On Christmas Day, I wore my new Karina dress that I won via a giveaway from Jess at Elegantly Dressed and Stylish. I love the movement of the dress and that it doesn’t wrinkle. I know I’ll wear it a lot!

It was quite cold while we were on the Central Coast, but walking near the water always feels so good!

Avila Dec 2016
I love hiking near the coast and having a view of the ocean for part of the hike.

Avila Beach

Every year we try to take a trip at the very end of the year to a beach either near Santa Cruz or Half Moon Bay. On Wednesday, we made it to Soquel near Santa Cruz. Time at the beach is always relaxing and rejuvenating.

Questions: What are some of your favorite activities from the past few weeks? What are your plans for 2017? We are going to start the year with a Conscious Cleanse* (read more about the Conscious Cleanse here in case you are interested; my readers can get $25 off with CODE AND25).

Be well,

    1. Happy New Year, Nancy!

And, yes, the sounds and smells of the sea alone are wonderful... I really hope we'll make it there more often this year...

  3. What a nice tradition Andrea!! Isn't it funny how when we live close to things, we don't always take advantage of them?
We are the same way with the mountains...of course, I'm more of an indoor girl, so that's another reason!

    1. Yes. Unfortunately, I think we always think we have plenty of time to visit places that are close by... We know many people who are here for work from Europe for two or three years, and they have all seen so much more of California (and the United States as a whole) than we have. And I have lived here for 25 years...

  4. I love your family shots Andrea. Christmas is such a good time for bringing us all back together isn't it? The beach looked really busy, so I can only presume that your weather is indeed quite mild. My daily swims are a solitary affair with no-one on the beach, ever! Your coat is really lovely, and is the kind of coat I'd wear too - cosy and fab pattern - right up my street.

Wishing you a very peaceful and prosperous New Year Andrea x

    1. I'm sure your year-round swims would be a lot more pleasant here... Still too cold for me, but there are so many surfers and swimmers at beaches here all year long.

      Have a wonderful year, Anna!

    1. Happy New Year! I'm in love with the Karina dress! I already have my eye on a couple other Karina dresses. The fabric is fantastic. It doesn't wrinkle, feels great against the skin, and drapes very nicely. And, yes, we are very spoiled weather-wise...

We spent a few days before Christmas in Carmel, it was so rejuvenating! looks like you had a great time! And that dress, I absolutely love it on you, it's so pretty and chic! 16. Lucky you, winning that adorable, flirty dress. You wear it so well. I don't remember noticing or seeing the back of your haircut but it is so cute. Love the color and cut. Is it something new or have I just not been paying enough attention?

Are you doing your sentences for January, missy? I hope so. How's the cleanse going? I am ack at the exercising. Need to start watching what I eat more carefully. But that's so boring!

    1. Thanks, Leslie! I'm so happy with the dress! It was a great, unexpected present! :-)

My hair has been the same for quite some time now, but I'm sometimes not that timely getting a trim. That's why it probably looks different to you... In fact, I was just wondering if it was time for a change... But then again, I like the cut. So why fix it if it isn't broken? But I don't want to get stuck either...

Yes, I've been doing my sentence a day!! But I guess I can't be too proud since it's only January 4... :-)

The cleanse is going well; it's actually still the transition phase so there is more wiggle room.... I'm still drinking one cup of black tea a day as I really wanted to wean myself off caffeine slowly; that's by FAR the hardest part for me...

      Good job with the exercise!
