Eating More Fruit

I have never been a big fruit eater. Growing up, we had our own organically grown apples, strawberries, raspberries, plums, peaches, and blackberries. I ate them, but I didn't love them. I have always loved cherries, but I only rarely eat them since they are so expensive...

I have been thinking for a while now that I should eat more fruit. Actually, I have been thinking about why I don't eat more fruit. Both my kids as well as hubby like fruit. I came to the conclusion that I am so busy preparing and packing fruit for everyone else that I am just tired of preparing some for myself. Yes, I know. It's not that hard to wash some fruit and eat it. But, sometimes it just is! I just don't feel like going through the trouble for myself (but I don't mind doing it for others....)

So I started making fruit salad several times per week for EVERYONE (really only cut-up fruit that I keep in a big glass container or a bowl in the fridge; sometimes I add a bit lemon juice). Guess what? I actually really like fruit when it is convenient to eat...


Question: What is your favorite fruit and how do you like to eat it?

  1. my favorite fruit? tooo much, but I'll have to say the king of the fruit, durian. how do I like to eat it? get someone to buy it and crack it open for me! lol! it's SO expensive, and tough to crack open!

  2. Thanks for stopping by my blog! I am really loving the 30 Day Shred (and hating it at the same time!). It's so easy to squeeze it in while taking care of the baby.

    My favorite fruit is bananas! I love to eat them as is, cook them in with my oatmeal or oat bran, and blend them into smoothies.

  4. Strawberries are by far my favorite, but I hate cutting them up, so I try to do it as soon as I get them home just to get it over with. Bananas are so convenient to carry along, but because of that, sometimes I feel like I OD on them and steer clear of them for a few weeks.

  5. Oh, I love blueberries on top of anything. Fresh blueberries. I like frozen but it just isn't the same.

  6. Huh. I totally left a comment here yesterday about how obsessed I am with apples, but it didn't go through I guess.

    Anyway, APPLES! Those are my favorite. Any which way, with peanut butter, with cheese, in crisps and pies. Yum! I eat an apple almost every day and have become an expert at squeezing them just so in the store so that I don't bring home any mushy ones.

    Pineapple is number two (not just because it has the word "apple" in it, I swear)

    I like a lot of fruit, though, especially berries and melon when they're perfectly ripe. I like throwing some frozen berries in a smoothie.

  7. These days, convenience is the big factor, so it's about buying the fruit, washing them, and eating them. That leaves apples, bananas, grapes, and cherries. Though I can do oranges and mandarins--I'm not THAT lazy...
