2011

2011 hasn’t been a perfect year. But they seldom are.

Much of the year was overshadowed by my dad’s cancer diagnosis in February. Luckily, he is doing well at this point, and I couldn’t be more thankful. His illness certainly has been a reminder that life is short and unpredictable and that we can’t count on tomorrow. It made me live life in the moment more, and I made the long trip to visit my parents three times in 2011, something I had previously thought impossible. I also became very much aware (after twenty years!) what a huge decision it was to move to another continent…

I also faced some challenges to continue a healthy and balanced life while things were tough. I’m proud that I continued to stay active and eat well through most of it. But it was certainly difficult and far from perfect. I hope to refocus a bit more on exercise and on cooking some new and interesting meals in 2012.

But luckily in addition to the lows there were also plenty of ups. Here are some in pictures.

Wishing you all a happy and healthy New Year! See you in 2012!

Be well,
Andrea

  5. Happy new year to you too, Andrea.
I love looking back at the year and thinking about ALL that has happened, despite the fact that every year seems to go by faster than the previous one. I hope 2012 bring you lots of joy and happiness!

  6. Live in the moment, I love that. Something I learned the hard way too when my Dad got cancer many years ago. The good part about it is that after all these years I'm still doing it: enjoy live every day as much as possible.

And I'm glad to see you're doing that too.

I hope 2012 will be a great year for you and I look forward to reading your blog in 2012.

  16. So sorry it's been a hard year. Having an ill parent casts a shadow over everything. I felt that way when my father was ill. Great news that he's doing so much better. Love the photos. From your blog, you wouldn't know you were having a tough time, that shows your strength I think. Thank you for recipes and tips and may 2012 be better in every way (or at least the most important way, health).
