Unfortunately, I’ve gotten injured several times over the last few weeks and have missed a lot of workouts. Not working out really affects my mood, so it has been a rough couple of weeks. Hopefully, I’ll be back to my regular workouts soon.
I’ve also been writing more in the last few weeks. Numerous of the “more serious” assignments haven’t been published yet, but here are a few published articles, in case you are interested.
I wrote about one of my favorite forms of exercise – barre workouts. I also wrote about how to stay safe on summer day hikes.
Besides my San Jose area restaurant news articles, I wrote about my favorite summer produce – tomatoes. Lara, I know you’ll skip those!
The first is a Caprese Salad recipe:

I also wrote an article about my favorite summer salad.

Finally, I’m indulging in a little guilty pleasure and have been following the news about the new “Silicon Valley” TV show that’s currently being filmed for Bravo and that’s going to air later this year.
Questions: How is your summer going? What’s your favorite summer produce? How is your summer exercise routine going?
Stay cool & safe!
Be well,
Andrea
I think I have to join a CSA, the produce always looks so good! Congrats on all of your writing assignments, that's awesome!
ReplyDeleteI love rainer cherries and any type of berry. I need to jump start my exercise though, was planning for this week.
Thanks! :)
DeleteI love rainier cherries, too!
Tee hee hee....yes I'll probably skip the tomato one, but I'm all over the summer salad (maybe I'll sub in peppers?), the barre workouts, and the trashy TV.
ReplyDeleteGreat idea to sub peppers!
DeleteThat produce looks wonderful - loving the cherries! And sweet corn is in season right now here and it is SO good!
ReplyDeleteYes, cherries and corn are fabulous right now!
DeleteLoving all the fabulous produce from your CSA!
ReplyDeleteI always love the traditional caprese salad. That is perfect for summer! :)

Deleteenjoying a lot of summer peaches and watermelon! :)
ReplyDeletehope you recover from injuries soon!
Thanks!
DeleteI don't usually love fruit, but peaches, cherries, and watermelon are really good right now!
Hi Andrea! I think I would love your barre class! I looked at the link and it is a lot of stuff that I like doing. I really believe in balancing poses for muscle toning, but even more so, for injury prevention.
ReplyDelete:-) Marion
Yes, barre classes are really great for strengthening muscles that are easily neglected and thereby preventing injuries.
DeleteSorry to hear about your injuries-That's never fun! I read your Barre workout article and it brought back memories of the agony from the Pure Barre workout I did last summer. Mmm...funny thing I've never been back :-). I hope your injuries heal quickly!
ReplyDeleteThanks! And, yes, barre workouts are torture, but in a good way... ;)
Deleteoff to read your BARRE piece as I keep thinking when my back is better Ill check it out!
ReplyDeleteMy barre workouts have done wonders for my back.
DeleteSo far my summer has just FLOWN by, and I have yet to make it to any farmer's markets. Who knew planning a wedding could so easily consume one's life?! :)
ReplyDeleteI saw a recipe for capresse with polenta, and I want to try it soon (to replace the cheese, pretty clever, but I would still use SOME cheese!)
As for workouts, they are getting boring, I'm looking to spice them up a bit!
Yes, planning a wedding would do that to your summer! ;)
DeleteA caprese salad with polenta sounds interesting!
Those salads look wonderful! Congrats on your articles! Our summer has been wonderful. We are in Maine right now. Have you been here? If not you would LOVE it. We've been hiking in Acadia national park. Breathtaking!
ReplyDeleteI've never been to Maine, but it sounds wonderful. Great you are having a great time!!!
DeleteThis heat, humidity and lack of rain has zapped my exercise full force. I just have to get my ass in the air conditioned gym then all will be well!
ReplyDeleteI love corn on the cob - favorite summer veggie! :D
Yes, good corn on the cob is great!
DeleteHope you'll make it to the gym soon! :)
Sorry to hear you got some injuries. Hope you are back on usual workout track soon.
ReplyDeleteSummer? What Summer? It looks like Summer is skipping my country this year. Weather is not good. But my workouts are rocking.
Glad your workouts are going so well! And I hope summer arrives in Holland soon!
DeleteI love barre too but have a fall marathon so I'm starting to kick up my running. As for summery foods: cold soups, ceviches, spice and of course fun cocktails too.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy the marathon training! Your summer food sounds delicious!
DeleteHope your injuries are better now Andrea! Your produce looks amazing. I still wish we had CSA's here but not yet. Maybe someday though.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Diane!
DeleteThe summer salad looks amazing! I love a great corn & bean combo! Such a great way to boost the fiber of your dish. Yummy! Summer is always a great time of year - I hope you are able to get back to your usual routine soon!
ReplyDeleteYes, beans & corn is a nice combo!
DeleteI love Summer since everything looks brighter and shinier :)
ReplyDeleteThe salad looks fabulous, so colorful.
Hope you are having a fun Summer as well!
Thanks! Yes, summer produce is the best!
DeleteI'm so sorry you got injured!
ReplyDeleteThanks! I'm starting to feel better but still have to take it easy...
DeleteLove all of those summer salads! We're spending the summer @ home, @ the pool or @ the lake - it's too hot to be outside which is kind of sad. I'm also trying to take in as much fro yo as possible. :)
ReplyDeleteStay cool! Hot temps is a great fro yo excuse! ;)
DeleteYour CSA must be amazing! I'm curious about the Silicon Valley show on Bravo. Have not heard about the controversy but will have to check it out.
ReplyDeleteIt'll be interesting to see how the show turns out...
DeleteI'm sorry for the injuries. While I don't have your injuries, my son was married last weekend, so the festivities really put a dent in my workout schedule and I can see it impacting my mood as well. Time to get back on track. We live in farm country with a corn farm nearby. The corn is so incredible that I can't bear to purchase it at other times during the year. It just doesn't compare. I hope you heal up soon. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks! I'm finally better. :)
Deletechecking back in on you :-)
ReplyDeleteThanks for checking in, Carla! Things are going well. We've been traveling, and there just hasn't been that much to share... :) BUT, I'm ready to get a bit more structured about my exercise and food, so there is a post in the works... :)
