Rootstock Wine Bar in Cupertino

One of our favorite places for Happy Hour is Rootstock Wine Bar in Cupertino. They have a very nice wine selection in addition to several craft beers on tap. And their appetizers and small plates are always delicious.

Wine Dinners at Macaroni Grill

To follow along on my food adventures in Silicon Valley, the greater Bay Area, the California Central Coast and occasionally in Europe, check out my Food Instagram Account

Andy and I were fortunate to be invited to a couple wine dinners at Macaroni Grill in Milpitas, and we were quite impressed.

For $40 per person, you get to choose an antipasti, a soup or salad, an entree and a dessert. You then pair each course with a wine from a selection of about eight to ten wines. The taste and quality of the food was very good, and the wines were enjoyable. It's a great date night option or to celebrate a special occasion.

For my antipasti course, I chose a deconstructed bruschetta with grilled rosemary bread, whipped ricotta, Roma tomatoes, garlic and basil. It was a fresh and tasty way to start the meal. I chose to pair the dish with a Terlato Wines Pinot Grigio and enjoyed the pairing.

Second course options included salads and soups, and I went with the Bibb & Bleu Salad: Bibb leaves, Gorgonzola, walnuts, crispy prosciutto, crispy onions, pickled red onions, and buttermilk ranch. We really enjoyed the salad. All the flavors went really well together, and it had just the right amount of dressing

I chose the Parmesan crusted sole with sundried-tomato orzo for my entrée, and we absolutely loved the dish. We brought the leftovers home, and our son couldn't get enough of it.

I ended the meal with a slice of lemon passion citrus cake with lemon curd, passion fruit filling and fresh whipped cream. The light, citrusy cake had the best passion fruit filling and was topped with an amazing lemon curd. It was complemented very nicely by the caramel sauce on the plate.

At this point of the dinner, we had a little bit of each of the white wines left and enjoyed seeing how each one paired with the dish. The Chardonnay was probably the winner, but at this point of the evening it was hard to tell...

Thank you Macaroni Grill for hosting us! It was a pleasure.

Be well,
Andrea
