We got up bright and early at 4 a.m. and took the train to the airport in Frankfurt; then we flew to Vancouver, where our flight was delayed, which meant we spent 6+ hours at the airport (luckily there was good wine!); we were beyond tired when we finally got home.

We went out for Korean food, which is our tradition after a Germany trip.

Sunday, August 12, 2018
I've been doing my own personal yoga challenge and have been practicing yoga every day for 46 days, but I hadn't been to a yoga or barre studio in almost a month, and it felt good to start the day with a barre class in a studio (which also included many yoga elements).

Andy and I started our free introductory week at labarre studios; while I have taken barre classes since 2010, it was his first class, and he liked it (everyone was super friendly and welcoming); we also started a cleanse today, which means we'll forgo eggs, dairy, sugar, alcohol, coffee, red meat, nightshades, etc. for the next two weeks (Andy reserves the right to modify at any time...).

Wednesday, August 29, 2018
I woke up at 3:30 a.m. with a terrible caffeine withdrawal headache (why do I do this to myself over and over again???), but we still made it to a barre class, and I think all the sweating helped a bit!

    1. Thanks, Jodie! The Germany trip wasn't all fun, but we focused on doing at least one fun thing a day. Writing the sentences focused me on being grateful and changed my perspective... And, yes, jet lag is the worst. And the older I get, the worse it gets unfortunately...

  5. I'm so impressed by all your healthy exercise and intention to do the cleansing diet. I'm not sure I've enough will power to be doing that, I'd be 'modifying' it daily! It must have been lovely to have caught up with your family in Germany, such a long way to travel, no wonder you had jet lag. Hope you are feeling better soon.

    1. Thanks! I actually enjoy all the food on the cleanse, but preparing it is quite time consuming, so it's easiest for me to do when I'm on break from teaching. Doing the cleanse really shows me how often I eat "convenience foods" (GF crackers, tortilla chips, cheese, yogurt, eggs, etc.).

  7. Your parents look well. So glad you were able to visit this summer under better circumstances when everyone was feeling good. Had a scare with my mom last week and thought I was going to have to make a mad dash to Kentucky but she got to feeling better and had just forgotten to take one of her meds.
Your son has really grown. A fifth grader this year! Will he go to middle or junior high for sixth grade? Hope he has a wonderful year.
What picnic spread you enjoyed. And the food in Germany makes me hungry to return. I so enjoyed my trip to your home country this time last year.

  9. Your Germany trip looked amazing! I hope to go there some day with my hubby, who is of German descent and has been there several times. I'm impressed with your yoga practice. I need to do more but I try to go Friday mornings at our gym with my favorite instructor. And your last entry where you got 20K steps...WOW! Keep up the great work (out)s!
