Where to Find Outfit Inspirations

I haven't felt all that inspired when it comes to getting dressed lately.

For one, everywhere I look, I see fall clothes - in stores, on blogs, in magazines. Yet, we are in the middle of summer, and it's going to stay hot around here - at least in the middle of the day - until the end of October. Another reason is that I have bought very few clothes this summer and somehow my options seem limited. But in reality, I have plenty in my closet, so I really just have to take a closer look at what I own and wear it!

To help me, I decided to look at the outfits I posted in August 2016. It turns out that all four outfits I posted last year included a recent purchase! I also realized that I haven't worn most of them in quite some time...

I bought this black and white tunic in Germany last summer, and I really like it. It's time to wear it again!

The graphic tee is another purchase I made in Germany last year... I don't really ever buy "real souvenirs," instead I buy clothes...

The third item I bought in Germany is this kimono/poncho. It's a great third summer layer, and I have worn it recently. But there is no reason why I shouldn't wear it several more times this summer!

Finally, the last outfit post from last August included a new Tommy Bahama maxi dress that I picked up at the Tommy Bahama outlet store on our way back from Tahoe. It was a "real steal" as it was marked down from $168 to $39. However, if I don't wear it, it's not that much of a "steal," is it?

Questions: How/where do you find inspirations for what to wear? Do you find it hard to get dressed at the end of summer when you see fall clothes all around you, yet it's still very warm? What's your favorite outfit right now? What are you looking forward to wearing in fall?

  1. I don't want to post anything fall related yet. Although it's not warn here in the Netherlands. It's August and I adore my summer clothes as long as the weather allows.

  2. It is so smart to "shop" our closets!! I find that many of the items I think I want to buy are somehow already in my wardrobe!! How smart to look back at your photos, Andrea!!
I know everyone is looking ahead to fall, but I also want to enjoy the present---and it's still hot here too!!

    1. Yes, I feel like we are rushing ahead and don't appreciate the moment when we start talking about fall in July! And you are so right, oftentimes there are things in my closet that end up being very similar to something I'm interested in buying...

  3. Oh, I so agree. I don't know why but people always seems to rush the fall season and fall fashion. I don't see them doing that for spring. I just can't stand seeing fall clothes in the summer. Love all your outfits, especially the graphic tee and kimono.

  4. You and Jodie and Amy and my other blogger friends are my inspiration. I am afraid I would be totally boring left to my own devices. All of these are great outfits and absolutely worthy of another round or two before October. My fav are the tunic and the kimono. You look happy (wine?) in the kimono and relaxed (wine?) and dashing.

  7. These four pieces are great, love the last dress most. I stupidly wore long jeans today and got so hot! I wish the weather would make up its mind and do one think or the other!! Jacqui

  8. I completely agree with you about being disheartened seeing all the autumn clothes on show in the shops already. I feel we really haven't had our fair share of summer here and yet don't want to pack my summer clothes away yet in case the weather turns fine again. I love your kimono with those glorious sleeves Andrea - it's so pretty!

    Wishing you a great week!

  10. These are great pieces, definitely bring them back! I know how you feel...it's all fall yet we won't have fall weather till at least November so why bother? Plus a bonus for us California gals is by November, all the early fall merchandise goes on sale! I too go back on my Instagram Feed and see what I wore this time last year - there are some looks I definitely will be repeating. This is when I rework my closet a bit, I touch each item, and if something has not been worn, I pull it out and try to make an outfit with it. If I'm totally uninspired and over the piece, I place it in a resale pile - this starts my account at the resale shop - so I can save up for a fabulous sweater, handbag or dress for when fall does strike! I also go to the Style Challenges on Instagram as they tend to be more current season over Pinterest whichI feel pushes the new season. I screen shot looks I like and then take the photos to my closet and try to recreate some of my favorite looks. That usually gets me inspired for a few extra weeks and thru the dog days of summer..

  12. All of these outfits look great! Like you, I also enjoy purchasing clothing items as 'souvenirs' from my travels (more than just the typical tourist T-shirts). When I wear those pieces at a later time, I'm reminded of the trip and the place where I purchased them.
