The Perfect Third Summer Layer

A Kimono: A Perfect Third Layer

When I get dressed, I usually try to add a third layer because it takes an outfit to the next level. In summer, adding a third layer can be challenging, but a lightweight kimono works perfectly. In fact, I find it keeps me cooler than not wearing it as it protects me from the sun.

I bought the blue and white kimono last year in Germany and was going to get a few more kimonos but haven't done so yet.

Murrieta's Well Wine Club Pickup Party

I wore the kimono on a hot day to our wine club pickup party at Murrieta's Well in Livermore.

Wine Club pickup parties at Murrieta's Well are always enjoyable with delicious wine to sip, tasty food to eat and great music to listen to.

I loved relaxing in the shade for a few hours; the kid brought a book to read and also enjoyed the outing.

Questions: Do you own a kimono? If so, do you like wearing it as a third layer in summer? When have you last been out on a relaxing outing?

Be well,
Andrea

  3. Weather here hasn't been all that good for outdoor relaxing, I wore one of my kimonos recently which worked well with my outfit. I've got another that's not been out of the wardrobe this year! Maybe I'll be wearing it tomorrow - thanks for sharing Andrea. Jacqui

  4. Yes and yes ... I have a few kimonos and I almost always include a third layer in my outfits all year long. I wore a kimono just last night to a friend's backyard BBQ party, more for style than for warmth, but I wound up glad to have it as the night air started to get a little chilly. Thanks for sharing your styling ideas on my Fine-Whatever link up.

  5. I feel pretty naked when I am not wearing a third layer.a kimono seems perfect because of the thin fabric. Looks like a great time over there. We went to a food truck festival yesterday. That is great too!

  11. I will admit that I'm lazy with my layering in summer. It gets so hot and humid here that a third layer just becomes another item to sweat through.

    This place looks wonderful!

    1. Humidity is tough! I'm thankful that our heat is mostly dry. I found the very thin kimono actually nice in the humidity in Germany last summer.

    1. Thanks, Mary! I love that a kimono can really change/elevate a basic outfit. That's at least how I'm rationalizing buying a couple more... ;-)

  13. I have a lightweight white woven kimono, and a chiffon version with spring florals. Love wearing them both with light colored skinny jeans, tank tops, wedge or platform heels, and a statement necklace. Always feel stylish when I do so!

  16. I like to have a matching coverup handy. In the shadow or wind it comes in handy more often than one wants! Thanks for joining the Top of the World Style party.

  17. A lightweight kimono looks like a great idea for layering in the summer. A friend of mine always wears them and always looks stunning - but then I forget to get one for myself! Thanks for the reminder and the inspiration :)
