Maxi Dress for Summer

Summer Dress

I’ve started to mentally put together a travel wardrobe for a couple upcoming trips. I think my color palette will be black, white, blue, and green. One of the items I plan on taking is my Tommy Bahama maxi dress. I got the dress several years ago in an outlet store on our way to Tahoe. It was 80% off and cost less than $30. I think I wore the dress almost every day on that Tahoe trip. I honestly could have left most of the clothes I packed at home...

Maxi Dress 1
I haven’t worn the dress in a couple years, but I still love it, and I know I will love it on our trips. It’s nice and airy but will work if it cools down with a cardigan or even leggings underneath.

Maxi Dress 3
Recently, when I realized that my manicure matched the dress, I knew I was meant to wear it again… :-)

Maxi Dress 2
Outfit Details: Tommy Bahama Dress old (I love this black/white striped Tommy Bahama dress), Birkenstock Gizeh sandals, black cardigan (I like this one), turquoise necklace (I like this turquoise pendant)

Questions: Are you thinking of putting together a travel wardrobe? If so, what’s your color palette? Do you like wearing maxi skirts and dresses in summer?

  1. I love the colors of your dress! Like you, when I travel I like to take things that fit into a particular color scheme or that all match so that I can mix and match and get the maximum use out of a handful of pieces. Last year I stuck to patriotic red, white and blue for my trip to South Carolina. Good luck planning and packing for your upcoming trips!

    1. Thanks, Katie!

I remember a trip years ago where I didn't plan and just decided to take all my colorful tops "because it was going to be fun." Nothing went together, and getting dressed was a nightmare. I ended up wearing the same pieces over and over... I'm determined to plan better this time! :-)

  2. Great idea to have a palette for your vacation outfits. I always try to take clothes of all different colors and patterns but that means more shoes, more accessories. I am going to shift my thinking on this!

    1. I'm almost 5'11" and this dress hits the floor when I'm not wearing shoes. I'm happy to have found a dress that's truly a maxi on me (often they are quite a bit shorter on me), but I was also thinking that that's probably why it was so cheap - it was way too long on most people... :-)

  35. I'm too short-legged to wear maxis. Have to do the petite thing, and they never fit with a long torso and short legs. But planning a travel wardrobe around a central piece of clothing is smart!

  40. Although I'm not very tall, I love a great maxi dress! You can dress it up or down, and although there is a lot of fabric they are cool. I have a few that are halter style, and now that I'm older the neckline is a bit low for me, I've learned to add a tank under it and a jacket or cardigan over it and it's all good.

I love the colors of your dress and had to click through to see the black and white dress too, the pattern and the way they've put it together is so awesome! Love it. I also love turquoise and it looks great paired with your dress!

    1. Yes, maxi dresses are great for warmer temps! I love your tank & cardi trick! Yes, so often just adding something underneath extends to life of a piece of clothing that wouldn't work anymore otherwise. I'm also bringing leggings on my trip to wear underneath in case it's colder...

I love the black & white dress!
