Floral Pants

Pattern Mixing

After seeing a lot of pattern mixing on Instagram and blogs last year, I really started to like it, but it took me a while to do it myself. One of my first attempts at pattern mixing was very similar to the outfit I’m wearing here (with different shoes and a necklace).

Last fall, I had recently “found” my floral pants on the bottom of my casual pants drawer. I had had the pants for about five years but hadn’t worn them in a couple of years. In the past, I had only worn them with a white blouse, but I wasn’t crazy about the look. By looking at what was in my closet, I decided that my polka dot blouse would go with the pants. I like the subtle pattern mixing, which was completely out of my comfort zone at the time.

Last time I wore the outfit, I wore a blue necklace. Since I am currently in love with bandanas/neck scarves, I added a bright orange neck scarf to the outfit this time. I like that there is a bit more pattern mixing going on because of the pattern on the bandana (hard to see in the photos). I also like the bright pop of color near my face.

Since it was a bit cool, I also added my denim jacket, which I seem to be wearing nonstop lately...

We found the fun mural on the side wall of a restaurant in downtown Pismo Beach during our recent California Central Coast visit. The kid decided to have some fun with it, too!

Floral pants I love: One, Two, Three, Four, Five, Six
Denim jackets I love: One, Two, Three
Polka dot blouses I love: One, Two, Three
Bandanas/neck scarves I love: One, Two, Three, Four, Five, Six

Questions: Do you like pattern mixing? Do you like florals? And more specifically, do you like or own floral pants? What have you recently “found” in your closet?

  2. (I tried to comment through WP first, so if two comments pop up, I'm sorry.) You look fab! I adore the pants and the scarf that you chose to wear with it. I think that it accentuates the colors in the pants perfectly.

  11. Great idea to post questions of your readers. I think a lot of my readers are shy and don't like to comment. Not sure how to assure them that it is safe! I love pattern-mixing but still feel a little reticent to do it out in public. But it is truly all the-go. I think the subtle dots of your blouse work perfectly with the floral pants. Love the orange bandanna. I have paisley pants (PC calls them clown pants) but no florals...YET.

    1. Yes, some readers are shy! I have several readers (who have been reading my blog for years) who will once in a while send me an email when something stands out to them, but they don't comment on the blog.

I was VERY hesitant to try pattern mixing. I think I had to get used to it first. After a while I really liked it. In fact, my husband, of all people, started doing some pattern mixing last year. He has some brown pants that have a very subtle plaid pattern and he paired them with a brown striped dress shirt. At first I was thinking: "What is he thinking?" But then it grew on me... :-)

  13. I need to clean out my closet and its a goal for next month, so maybe I'll 'find' some lost items in there from last summer! I do not have floral pants, but I do have some floral tops, kimonos, scarves AND a dress! I think next is pants, right?! Lol! I LOVE this look on you, one of my favorites!!!!! I think you NAILED the pattern mixing, girl! :)

Whenever I walk by I think we'll have to stop by next time to try the clam chowder - judging by the line it must be fantastic! - but we always end up just having eaten or not having time, etc. I'm sure we'll check it on one of our trips!
