Flare Jeans & A Boho Top

For the longest time, I cringed whenever I saw 70s-inspired clothing. I grew up in the 70s but never really liked the style (maybe because my mom pretty much decided what I got to wear…). But then I somehow became intrigued by flare pants. So several months ago I dragged Andy to Bloomingdale’s on a date night to “do some research.” Unfortunately (or fortunately), I fell in love with the first pair of flare jeans I tried on. Unfortunately, they were not cheap, even though there was a denim event going on at the time, and the jeans were on sale.

They are long and didn’t quite work with my fall/winter boots. But they do work with my higher sandals and clogs, and I can see myself wearing them all the time in spring and summer.

I recently wore the jeans with a white Boho blouse and a heart scarf to the Bacon and Beer Classic at Levi’s Stadium (where the Super Bowl took place just a few weeks ago). To make the outfit more fun, I carried my colorful Desigual bag.

I have never paid that much for a pair of jeans. However, I love them. They are incredibly soft and comfortable (in fact, I read one online review where someone was complaining that they are too soft! I would never complain that jeans are too soft!). Considering that, over the years, I bought quite a few items of clothing that I ended up hardly wearing (because they were not perfect), I think spending more money on jeans that work and you will get a lot of wear out of is a good investment and worth it in the long run.

Andy was a judge at the event, and it was fun that we had VIP access to the field.

  1. Such a great look! I love that you only wore one boho item, the jeans, to keep it balanced. Great bag too! I think most flare jeans do run long because they are meant to wear with heels. But I don't wear heels often, because I just can't walk in them. I searched forever before I found flares that weren't super long. I bought mine at American Eagle. Yes, I like to wear flares. I like that not one jean style is in, but you can pretty much wear any type of jeans today. I also love boho. I have a lot of boho items: dresses, tops, bags, etc. I like the comfy/casual look of boho.

    1. Yes, I love that many different jeans styles are in. I still love my skinny jeans, but flares are so fun. I also don't wear heels very often, and I considered hemming my flares, but I think they'll work with enough of my spring/summer shoes.

  2. I love that flares are back in style! This jeans look great on you. Paige is one of my favorite brands, and definitely think a great pair of jeans is worth the investment.

  3. What a great outfit! I've been curious about Paige denim for a long time but have yet to buy a pair. I'm happy to hear that you think they're worth the money! As for flare jeans, same thing...I have yet to buy a pair but have been considering it for awhile. I've had my eye on a pair from Tallwater jeans since I really love my bootcut jeans from them. I also love J.Crew for jeans.

How fun that you had VIP access to the stadium for that event. And your husband was invited to be a tasting judge for "bacon and beer"? Talk about heaven!

    1. I love the Paige jeans because they fit well and are so soft. As I wrote above, I read a review where someone complained that they are too soft. But for me the softness is a definite plus! :-)

Being a judge is fun but also more "work" than you'd expect... ;-)

  7. Hey Andrea! Well you know me, you are speaking my style language in these flares and oh how I love that boho bag! Paige makes amazing jeans, though I am partial to the Hudson Mia Flare. I have a super dark pair that I wore all fall and winter and just ordered a lighter distress pair in the Mia for spring/summer. If it's in the budget, a premium jean in a great cut is worth every penny. You will have these for seasons to come - they look amazing on you! As far as boho love, yes please!

  8. I never cared for flare jeans either, but it seems they've changed a lot from the original pairs back in the 70's and aren't AS flared and the top if more fitting. You styled these wonderfully!!

I definitely think not every jeans style is for everyone and you should wear what you like and feel good in. Thankfully, there are so many different jeans styles today to choose from...

  11. Not sure how I feel about a full "flare" (I was in the Navy, after all, with bell bottoms). But I was introduced to "boot cut" a few years ago, and there learned that they are pretty flattering on a short stocky me. So I like them and wear them.

As I get older, I return to my 70's poor kid roots of trying to not keep up with the fashions. For one thing, it's wasteful (think of where the out of fashion clothing goes). For another, some of the fashions, frankly, are ugly and not flattering. I'm not a fan of colored jeans that will go out of style a week after you buy them. I'm really not a fan of the jeans/ pants that are super tight all the way to the ankle (and yes, I remember when they were last in style!)

I do, however, love the boho look. It is not a good look for me. Maybe I'll find the "right" boho top at some point. My friends look great in it. So far, I do not.

    1. Boot cut jeans are a great alternative to full flare jeans!

And I hear you about fashion trends. I think it's important to choose trends wisely in terms of what looks good on you and not to be wasteful. I try to buy only new clothing that I will wear for (at least) several years. A few trendy (or simply updated) pieces go a long way.

  27. So nice to see that adding on scarf (the right one, mind you) can give an outfit the last boost. I don't really love flared jeans but I do have a soft pair myself (by Paige) and if I wear jackets with it, it is good. You have a different figure from me and I think they look good on you.

  29. I haven't been overly excited about flare jeans and haven't been sure if I wanted to buy a pair. I did wonder if I could convert a pair of bootcut into flare and went so far as to google the dimensions and looks for DIY suggestions. I'm still on the fence about it.

Love your look and thank you for adding your post to my Powers the Flower link-up.

    1. I actually think some of the wider bootcut jeans don't look all that different from flares (especially a lot of the more moderate flares, and many flares seem to be more moderate...). I think one thing that makes the look a bit different is the "dusting-of-the-floor" length that may be a bit different with some bootcuts. But in the end, I think there are so many different jeans styles out there that you should really only go for it if you think you'll end up liking them. I know I was on the fence for quite some time... :-)
