Missoni Love

Besides the red tights (last week’s post), I also bought some grey, textured tights when I was in Germany (in a grocery store of all places). I decided to wear them with my Missoni for Target dress. I can’t believe I almost tossed the dress several times… I so love wearing it now! And I’m always drawn to iconic Missoni prints and am thinking of adding some new pieces to my wardrobe (see below).

Outfit Details

Dress: Missoni for Target old (I love this Missoni dress (a real splurge); I also love this and this much more affordable Missoni dress from TheRealReal - I’ve been meaning to check out TheRealReal, an online consignment store that verifies that designer pieces are authentic. They have lots of Missoni and other designers at great prices.)
Tights: German “no name” brand; these tights are great: grey cable knit tights, grey houndstooth tights
Blazer: Zara

Questions: Are there any clothing items you almost gave away/sold/donated that you now wear a lot? Any items you gave away and regretted? I can think of a few: a great black & white tunic that I soooo would want back is one example. Have you ever used TheRealReal? If so, how was your experience?

Be well,
Andrea

  1. Love your tights, and your dress! Great outfit. I regret giving away a lot of things, which is why I no longer believe in the theory "If you haven't worn it in a year, donate it". I think that's a slogan retailers dreamed up to keep customers buying new clothes. As long as I have the room, I will just move old clothes to other closets.

    1. Yes, in many cases the "if you have not worn it in a year" rule does not make sense. For example, I have had some of my favorite scarves for close to 20 years. Yet there were stretches when I didn't wear them for years...

    1. I think working in a clothing store would be very, very tempting... I could totally see always wanting the new arrivals that you love! A friend of mine worked at J. Crew during college many years ago; but I think she actually lost money from working there... :-)

  7. I have had donor's regret. Luckily for one of my most cherished dressed I'd given it to my sister when I thought I'd no longer be able to fit into it and when I lost some weight I was able to ask for it back. Ha ha! I've done that with some jeans too.

My sister lives on the other side of the country though and now that I have to pay for baggage when I travel I don't take an extra suitcase to give her so I'm donating to thrift stores or taking items to consignment stores.

I'm always scared I'll make a poor decision and regret it. Probably why my closet is so full!

    1. It's great when you can ask back for something you gave away! :-) I've realized lately than more often than not I end up liking a lot of things in my closet again after taking a little break from them...

  8. Oh how glad I am you kept this fabulous dress!! The tights are perfect with it!! I have a big garage sale every other year and after I put some of my clothing items out, sometimes I scoop them back up and take them back in my closet. We ladies can change our minds! ;-)

  10. Elegant and stylish look! The dress is such a nice piece, I wonder why you wanted to get rid of it :) Yeah, I do have a couple of regrets about the things I donated. So, nowadays I think twice before getting rid of something

    1. Yes, I wonder myself why I wanted to give it away! Actually, I never wore it (even after I bought it, it hung in my closet for a couple years before I put it one!). Not sure why... :-)

  11. I don't know TheRealReal, but probably they don't sell in Italy, but I know for sure that Missoni is a very expensive brand! It's so ditticult to find their items at an affordable price also at the end of the season!!
You are wearing a beautiful dress, and the mix of colours make it easy to match. It is very nice on you!
I generally keep my clothes a couple of years before giving them away. If in the time I don't wear them anymore, I donate. Just to be sure I won't regret!!!

    1. Thanks, Dan!

TheRealReal sells pre-owned clothes, some of them never worn and still with the tags on. That's what makes it a lot cheaper. And the company confirms that an item is authentic item, not a fake.

  14. Those tights are fantastic! I totally want them. Can't believe you found them in a grocery store. I'm really glad you kept this dress. It looks so great on you and the print is eye-catching and interesting. I can't think of anything that I've given away and regretted. I'm sure it's happened but at least I can't remember enough to be bummed about it. :)

  20. Great tights, I still can't believe you found them at a grocery store out of all places. I have yet to regret something I give away, but almost did. Once I almost donated my first pair of designer shoes, because I had them for years. Thankfully, I kept them, one my favorite pairs of shoes.

  21. Yes I've given away things I've regretted, but on the other hand, if I don't give things away my clothing "collection" will take over the house! ;) Now this Missoni is definitely a keeper! I love Missoni. Also obsessed with Pucci prints! Just purchased my first thing on The Real Real and waiting for it to arrive. I'll let you know what I think. (Prada Sunnies!)

    1. You are right of course. It is necessary to get rid of things to make room for new things... And, yes, Pucci is amazing, too! I had a Pucci dress about 20 years ago, and I'm still dreaming of it!

Looking forward to see what you think of the Prada sunnies from TheRealReal!

  23. MISSONI! Love it! Love, love, love it!! Don't you? For my 40th my sister gave me a Missoni scarf. It's one of my favorite pieces. And also, I can remember Missoni being one of the first brands that I recognized as being so special.

    Love your dress Andrea!

  24. Wow, this is a bold outfit. Really good. Never saw such tights as you picked up.
As for regrets over donated pieces... hmmm mostly not. I seem to forget about them almost immediately. But one bag and one batwing T-shirt.. those I regret.

    1. Yes, it is quite bold for me!!! Glad you don't have many donation regrets. Maybe that makes it easier for you to part with clothes. After giving away a few things I REALLY regret, I'm very hesitant to give things away...
