Rebecca Minkoff MAB Tote in Rose

A few weeks ago,  I looked through my purses and got rid of several of them that were way past their prime.

I don’t usually spend a lot of money on bags, but I decided I wanted to replace some of the purses I had to let go of with a bit higher quality bags than I have been carrying, as I realized that very low cost bags usually just don’t hold up that well. In the long run, I think it makes sense to spend a little more on a bag that I will have for many years.

When I saw the Rebecca Minkoff medium MAC tote in rose for 50% off, I knew I “had” to get it. I love pink but don’t wear it as much as I used to anymore. Lately, I have been adding it in accessories (scarves and necklaces) rather than as clothing. A bag seemed perfect.

When it arrived, it was every bit as gorgeous as I had imagined it to be, and I’m really looking forward to carrying it throughout spring. But it’s also fun to add some delicate color to winter outfits! (Unfortunately, my bag seems to be sold out in rose, but there are plenty other beautiful rose-colored bags, like thisthis, this, or this.)

I love that the bag has a zipper in the front, as that’s where I like to put some cash and my phone for easy access. And the two tassels are super cute. The bag has a magnetic button closure on the top but no zipper. The button does a good job keeping the bag closed, but a zipper would be of course more secure. I love the size of the bag as it holds my laptop, iPad, and lots more. I also like the pretty lining and the big zippered inside side pocket, which can hold keys and a wallet.

To be honest, I hadn’t really known much about Rebecca Minkoff purses. But after doing some research, it appears they are a quality, yet still somewhat affordable brand (especially when you get them on sale). One of the items on my “get list” for 2016 is “the perfect brown bag.” I even have a Pinterest board devoted to finding one! The Rebecca Minkoff MAB Medium Leather Tote Bag in almond (same bag as the bag above in brown) could be it…

Yellow is another popular color for spring, and getting a fun, yellow bag (like this, this, or this) is tempting (but honestly a LOT LESS practical than getting “the perfect brown bag,” which I can see myself carrying for years to come without getting tired of…). But then again, since I don’t look good in most shades of yellow, at least not near my face, a yellow bag would be a great way to add a bright color into my life…

Rebecca Minkoff has many gorgeous, fun bags (like this, this, or this). I think starting to look at purses more closely may be dangerous...

Questions: Are you a “bag person?” What’s your favorite purse brand? What is your go-to purse? Any new bags/colors you are considering adding to your collection?

Be Well,
Andrea

  5. I adore blush with grey. Alice from Happiness at mid-life is wearing grey with her rose too.

    The bag is lovely.

I'm not a big bag person. I find them hard to carry on my shoulders for long periods of time due to Fibromyalgia.

Sorry it's hard for you to carry bags, but your outfits always have so many fun, unique details even without a bag...

  7. I am very much a bag person and Rebecca Minkoff is a brand I've only recently added to my collection too :) in fact, I had the pleasure of meeting and interviewing Ms Minkoff last year when she was here to launch her SS2015 Collection. Amazing woman, completely down to earth and genuine and warm. Your bag, what a lovely choice. That colour is gorgeous. I tend to gravitate towards exotic skins myself.

  12. Hi! Thanks for visiting my blog and leaving such sweet comments. I don't have a 'reply' option for comments with my host, so I came over here to thank you. I was happy to read that you like that I blog about different topics, because I often wonder what readers think of that since most blogs are so one dimensional. I just have so many other interests other than fashion and I don't want to create a separate blog for each interest, so I just try to have a regular blogging schedule where I cover certain topics on specific days of the week.

As for your post I love bags! I have a huge collection of them. I love to add color to my outfits with handbags. I'm not a 'brand' person, so I don't have a favorite brand. I love your bag! That is so pretty!

    1. Hi Amy! Thanks for stopping by my blog! I started my blog as a "healthy living blog" almost seven years ago. Over the years, I found myself interested in other topics and occasionally wrote about them. When life threw me a few curve balls last year, I stopped blogging for five months, and when I came back, I knew I wanted to include a much wider range of topics. I personally really enjoy blogs with a wider range of topics, but I know that some may not like it. I really like your schedule! It lets readers know what to expect.

  20. Andrea I totally hear you. Did not used to be a bag person until starting fashion blogging. suddenly you are realizing that what you have been dragging around (cheaper bag) just doesn't cut it anymore. So you begin doing your research :)) The color is wonderful on you. Yellow? Hm...got the smallest Longchamp on ebay in yellow. For summer it's nice...xxxSabina

  21. I love you new bag, and the color is gorgeous! I do invest in bags. A good quality bag will last, and can take any outfit up a level! I love Rebecca Minkoff bags ( I've had the cross body on my wish list forever, can decide on a color). I also love Boden for quality, styling and price. Last, Oryany ( I have 3 and love them.) I always look for a fab piece on sale at Neiman Marcus Last Call.

  22. What a great bag and also a great deal! I bet you will get a lot of use out of it and the amount of things you can fit in it is fantastic.

I can't lie - I do love handbags and I tend to invest in brands that will (hopefully) last awhile rather than buy a ton of different ones. I've been wanting to try a Rebecca Minkoff bag and will be curious to hear what you think as time goes by.

As for my favorite brands, I'm a bit all over the boards. I have a few bags from Isabella Fiore and love the unique designs. Last year, I bought a Marc by Marc Jacobs black nylon cross-body because it's always raining here in Germany and I knew the nylon would hold up well in this weather. So far, it has served me quite well and I can't believe how much I can cram into it even though it's not all that huge. I have a black studded Kooba bag that has held up really well over the years so I'm quite happy with that purchase and would consider buying another bag from that brand. I've been pining for a grey bag for ages and recently bought a Michael Kors one on sale. Am curious to see how it holds up. Both my Kooba and MK bags have great interior pockets and key leashes and these are details I very much appreciate.

I want to explore local brands a bit more too. Liebeskind seems to be very well regarded and I recently learned about ZWEI from someone I follow on Instagram. Do you have any experience with either?

Well, I think I've rambled on about bags long enough. I hope you find the perfect brown bag and can't wait to see more of your RM bag!

    1. I hadn't heard of (or probably paid attention to) Isabella Fiore bags and just googled them; she has some awesome designs!

I had heard about Liebeskind on IG I think and actually went to the outlet store when I was in Germany in December. They had a gorgeous brown bag, but I wasn't ready to make such an investment, especially since I just didn't know that much about the brand... I have seen ZWEI bags and like the designs but don't have any experience with them.
