Exploring San Francisco: Ghirardelli Square and Juice Shop

We live only about an hour south of The City - as locals refer to San Francisco - but, unfortunately we don’t make it up north as often as we should. There is so much to explore, and we have vowed to get to The City more often this year.

We started this past weekend and explored Ghirardelli Square and its surrounding areas a bit. Even though there was light rain, it was a fantastic outing.

Of course we had to take the obligatory photo in front of the Ghirardelli sign.

We also walked out onto the pier, from where we had great views of the Golden Gate Bridge, Alcatraz, and The City.

Then we got to taste some fresh, organic, raw juice from the Juice Shop, which opened a store front at Ghirardelli Square about a month ago.

We met one of the Juice Shop's owners, Ben. He, his two brothers, and his sister-in-law own a total of six store fronts throughout San Francisco, where they sell raw, organic juices. Ben told us that they became interested in juicing when their older brother got sick and juice helped him greatly in his recovery.

Ben said that their mission is not only to sell juice but also to educate the public about the health benefits of juicing. We really enjoyed speaking with Ben and learning about the benefits of different juices. All the juices we sampled (about seven or eight) were truly delicious, and 100% kid-approved (and the kid proclaimed that they are a lot tastier than the juices I make at home…). I know that we’ll stop by for a juice next time we are in The City.

After we explored Ghirardelli Square a bit more, we walked over toward Fort Mason and walked around the park; a great way to get plenty of steps.

It was a great day in The City. We can’t wait to go back!

Questions: Have you ever been to San Francisco? If so, what’s your favorite neighborhood? Do you regularly explore neighborhoods, cities and other sights near where you live? Do you enjoy freshly squeezed (green) juices? If so, what’s your favorite combo?

Be Well,
Andrea

  4. What a great day.

I've only been to San Francisco once when I was doing a tour in California. Have seen a lot then and don't remember much (over 20 years ago). But what did make an impression was Alcatraz, especially the yard where the prisoners could get fresh air and you could see the city.

    1. I've been to Alcatraz once when I first moved to California 25 years ago. I do remember the view of SF from there. Seemed so close, and I guess some therefore tried to escape and swim to shore...

  5. I like San Fran. I've been a few times. Last time was four years ago!! It was spring break - we went to Mountain View (we have friends there), and then off to Yosemite. For one day, we wandered around San Fran. We climbed up a very big hill and tower, and I was 6 months pregnant.

I don't know very much about the neighborhoods. One of my friends lives on 47th Ave very close to the Ocean.

We keep talking about going back up to visit our friends. Generally we visit our friends in Mountain View and stay there at the Hampton Inn. We then meet up with my friend in SF and friends in Fremont. It's tough on the school schedule. We would have considered coming up again for Spring break, but we had to cancel our Thanksgiving trip to Utah, so we are going to Utah.

  10. SF is my favorite city in the US! I've been there many times. G square where yo went is great! Sausalito is very special. The last time I was there we rented bikes near the Embarcadero and biked over the Golden Gate to Sausalito then took the ferry back! That was great!!

    1. Your bike ride sounds fantastic, Dr. J! Tourists often do much more fun stuff than us "locals"... :-)

  12. Looks like you had a splendid day!

I have such fond childhood memories of road tripping through CA with stops in SF. When my husband and I were dating, we went for his 30th bday and had a fantastic time. I know it is somewhere I will always want to go back to.

I do indeed enjoy exploring my environs no matter where I'm living. I always say I love "playing tourist" near my home. You never know what you might discover if you just take the time to venture out.

There is so much to explore close to us! Unfortunately, I find we don't take full advantage of everything that's close to us...
