Conscious Cleanse Food and Portable Salads

Even though I have posted what I eat on the Conscious Cleanse before (Conscious Cleanse food and more Conscious Cleanse food), I have been getting questions on what I eat in a typical day, so I thought it would be fun to show you what I ate yesterday.

The day started with 32 ounces of warm lemon water. Since water is pretty boring to look at, there is no picture.

Then I had a green smoothie with lots and lots of greens. Yes, we are cheering with our smoothies! Smile

I had a huge salad for an early lunch. I made the Garlic Caesar dressing from the The Conscious Cleanse book (p. 251). The base of the dressing are soaked cashews that are pureed in a food processor with garlic, lemon juice, dates, water, and spices. It’s very good.

When we have salads, I often prep them the night before by cutting everything up and putting it in a bag. That way it’s quick and easy to grab. This mix had romaine lettuce, a large grated carrot, sliced mushroom, cucumber slices, and sliced celery.

I put some dressing in the bag and shook it to dress the salad.

Not pretty, but it gets the job done.

I often get to eat lunch at home since I do most of my grading and prep work from home. But you could take the bag and a small jar of dressing anywhere, and Andy (hubby) has taken it to work this way.

Here is my huge salad.

In the early afternoon, I had some carrots and cucumbers with hummus.

Around 4 p.m., I had an early dinner consisting of baked halibut and sautéed onions, mushrooms, and bok choy. I marinated the halibut in some sesame oil, ume plum vinegar, salt and pepper and then baked it at 375 degrees for about 12 minutes.

Conscious Cleanse Thoughts

Last Wednesday was the first transition day for the Conscious Cleanse. That meant that on Thursday, which happened to be Halloween, we couldn’t eat anything with added sugar. I think this made for a very rough start for Andy.

Instead of focusing on all the great veggies and new dishes he could eat, he focused only on what he couldn’t eat for a while there. I think he is slowly coming around though. He has also been having a hard time with drinking the 32 ounces of warm lemon water. Since we follow the lemon water with a big smoothie, I can understand that it’s a lot of liquid.

For me, it’s much easier to drink the 32 ounces of warm lemon water since I  drink it all the time. Also, I have gotten used to getting up very early so that there is some time between my lemon water and my smoothie. Between 4 a.m. and 6 a.m. is my most productive time of the day.

I like that the cleanse has made me already more organized than I  normally am. Plus, I really like that I’m eating more veggies and paying a lot more attention to my water intake.

Questions: What beverage do you start your day with? What’s your favorite salad dressing? I like simple vinaigrettes, but the Conscious Cleanse Garlic Caesar dressing is becoming a new favorite.

Be well,
Andrea

    1. You know, it's actually easier than it seems for me. I never thought I would want to do a cleanse, but the benefits are so great in the end, and I actually enjoy the process. Now Andy it's a different story... :)

  2. I love the toasting smoothies! ;) I can understand how difficult it is for Andy to drink all that fluid - when I drank more smoothies, I'd have to hold off on rehydrating in the morning, or else I couldn't finish my smoothie! I'll have to try your salad dressing trick. I'd say my favorite dressing is a plain vinaigrette with plenty of mustard!

  3. I do that for lunches at work! I put the salad stuff in a ziplock and then mix it at work. I keep dressing in the fridge at work so that the salad isn't limp by the time I eat it. Works great.

  4. This is fabulous! I love the idea of drinking 32 ounces of water right away. I have about an 8 ounce glass than go to coffee.
Me and the fiance are needing to buckle down with the wedding next year. I am going to look into this cleanse more. Thanks for the inspiration!

    1. I've been drinking 32 ounces of warm lemon water ever since I did my first cleanse in January, and I feel so much better.

Let me know if you have any questions about the cleanse.

  5. I know this post is about food but WOW I'm so impressed with your discipline to get up so early. I've been trying to do that for a while b/c it's my most productive and peaceful time of the day...when I actually get up. BTW I finally ordered a blender. I won't get it until we get to Austin in a few weeks (had it shipped to my BFF's house" but I'm so excited! I got the Blendtec one and Costco was running a special where it came with a "twister jar" that will be perfect for making baby food! :-D

    1. I can't do naked salads unless I have an avocado or some salsa or something to act as a dressing. I guess that would make it not naked. :) I also know that you don't do sauces, something I wish I could let go of... :)

  8. The salad looks good but WHAT? 4am? I thought I was insane when I got up at 5 (and I was). You are amazing!

    1. I'm very productive between 4 and 6 a.m. It would be hard to get everything done otherwise... Plus, I get to bed pretty early (most days). :)

  9. I admire you for the cleanse - as good as I am, not sure I have it in me to do this! :) I work out first thing so it is my water but otherwise coffee! :)

  11. Have you tried lemon water with agave and cayenne pepper? I love cayenne lemonade during my cleanse. The green smoothies look great & bagged dressed salads are fun to mix! I love carrot & mandarin & apple juices - it’s my favorite! My favorite salad dressing is lemon-shallot! It’s pretty easy and tasty!

    1. Yes, we are drinking lemon water with honey and cayenne pepper, and Andy prefers it to warm lemon water.

      Your lemon-shallot dressing sounds good!

    2. Salad in a bag, fancy that! Great idea. MEssy or not, it works.
I start my day off with coffee :) I know, it's anti-conscious cleanse I'm sure. I need to get back into the habit of chugging a bi ol' glass of water right when I get up!

    3. I drank coffee first thing in the morning for over 20 years, so no judging here! ;) I still sometimes can't believe that I don't drink it anymore... Since I stopped drinking it my perimenopause symptoms have improved a lot, so it's worth it! :)

  13. That is a nifty way to pack a salad for lunch so that it doesn't get soggy before you eat it.

    1. Yes, it's a great way to take a salad along. It's also a great way to prep a salad ahead of time for busy week nights.
