Now on to this week’s meals:
Meal 1: Roasted cabbage with lemon (I saw this on Tami’s blog and it looks delicious; I roast so many veggies, but I have never roasted cabbage for some reason) & salmon salad with lots of lemon juice, a little wasabi mayo and capers on a bed of lettuce
Meal 2: Turkey meatballs with tomato sauce, a salad, & pasta for the boys
Meal 3: Veggie stir fry with tofu & lots of cucumbers and peppers to dip in homemade (by my mother-in-law) doenjang (Korean fermented bean paste)
Meal 4: Salad with roasted veggies and poached eggs
Meal 5: Leftovers and other refrigerator finds
Exercise Thoughts
I’m pretty happy with my workouts overall, and planning helps me to stay focused. During the week, I recently find myself often very short on time, and all I can fit in is a short yoga session or a short DVD (like the 30 Day Shred) at home. I truly believe doing something is better than doing nothing, and I have been able to “make up” for any shortened workouts on the weekends. Looking ahead, I know that I need a more structured plan (to avoid getting stuck in a rut, especially when it comes to lifting weights), and I’ll be looking at various exercise plans over the next few weeks. For now, here is what I have planned for this week:
- 1 barre class
- 2 heavy(er) weight sessions
- 1 long(er) cardio workout
- 2 HIIT sessions
Be well,
Andrea
this has been my new exercise routine for the past week: son bikes (he does it fast now), and I jog or brisk walk to catch up with him. two birds in one shot. awesome. i couldn't do this last year since he wasn't biking fast enough. we go around the block five times or more, or to the park and back.--marilen
ReplyDeleteAwesome! Yes, it's starting to be a real workout to catch up with them on their bikes! :) It's great as I miss the days I could go on long walks with the kid in the stroller...
DeleteMeal # 1 & # 4 sound particularly SCRUMPTIOUS!
ReplyDeleteThanks!
DeleteGlad you at least got a little playtime in this weekend! I completely agree-some exercise is better than nothing at all. I was going to go for a run today, then the day got the better of me. I ended up playing a little baseball on the playground with my son, then came home and did 15 minutes at at 15 % incline on my treadmill. It felt good, even though it wasn't my original intention, and my son and I had fun playing baseball together. Hope you enjoy the lava cakes on Valentines Day :-)
ReplyDeletePlaytime with the kids is always good! :)
DeleteLooks like you had a great weekend Andrea.
ReplyDeleteI always plan my workouts 4 weeks ahead. Any appointments I have already planned in those 4 weeks I built my workouts around them (which is easy because I workout in the morning).
You know I bought a lot of DVD's and the variety in them prevents me from getting into an exercise rut. I never get bored doing them.
I like that you plan 4 weeks ahead, and I like the variety in your workouts. Getting some more DVDs is on my list...
Deletemmmm....beeeer! :) I love how you and your hubby are into beer like Nick and I are!
ReplyDeleteYour menu sounds wonderful. I've been into eggs lately and the veggies with poached eggs sounds fantastic. On our menu this week is leftovers, and quiona/tuna burgers. We're eating out for V-day tomorrow night, and I may make a chicken pizza on Friday. We'll see!
Yes, beer is good! Wish you lived closer and we could bond over it... :)
Deletedo you put the poached eggs in the salad or have them on the side? I never thought to do that but wondering if it's good? Your meals always sound great!
ReplyDeleteI arrange the salads on individual plates and start with lettuce/spinach on the bottom, which I dress with oil/vinegar/salt/pepper. Then I add roasted veggies. I put the poached eggs on top of the veggies, and I love that the runny yolk makes a dressing. It's actually one of my favorite meals.
DeleteHow do you like her shred video?
ReplyDeleteMy problem is HIIT is I'm more endurance based--it's hard for me to sprint!
I like The Shred because it's a short workout (22 min) that is challenging (even Level 1, especially if you use heavier weights and no breaks).
DeleteYes, HIIT is very hard for me, too, and I am trying to get back into it.
My goodness! I remember going out to Happy Hallow park myself when I was younger. It looks like they have new rides. You are a go getter, I'm not a successful planner.
ReplyDeleteThey completely remodeled the park a few years ago, and it looks very different than when I used to take my older son there...
DeleteIf I don't plan, I get very stressed... :)
Your menu always are very tempting Andrea, as for me, not much planned, I just know that with the cold I am ready for more soup :)
ReplyDeleteHope you have a great week!
I know whatever you'll make will be delicious! Have a great week, too!
DeleteIs your little one climbing a rock wall? Awesome!!
ReplyDeleteYes, something is definitely better than nothing. You ask this question at an interesting point in my workout life: usually I have ALWAYS just made up my own workouts- often by the seat of my pants the minute I hit the gym- no planning, no nothing. I have always enjoyed it and mixed up workouts a bit, but I realize now that I was doing much the same things, just slightly differently. The reason I say that is because I have been for the first time in my life FOLLOWING a plan: Janetha had such amazing results with Live Fit from Jamie Eason's Bodybuilding.com routine that I decided to try it (also because I was really tired for a few days and the first phase has NO cardio at all) So it's actually quite fun to have someone 'tell me what to do'- no brainer- just go in and bash out a workout. I'll be honest, I've never worked out so little in my recent life, but equally I've been very sore, which I like.
Glad you're doing well and enjoying life!
Yes, it's a little rock wall.
DeleteJanetha's results are amazing, and I've been looking at Jamie Eason's plan as well. But I'm a bit worried to commit to a plan and then not being able to follow it (life is just a bit crazy and unpredictable at the moment), especially since there are some quite long workouts I think. I'd love to hear about your experiences with the program. Sounds like it's going well for you!
sounds like a great weekend. did the beer walk feature local brews? i'm a big fan of those!
ReplyDeletewhat are barre workouts like? sounds interesting and something i would like. i usually run a lot, but i also love yoga and hiking in the woods.
Yes, the beer walk featured a good amount of local beers as well as some imported Japanese beers as it was held in Japantown.
DeleteBarre workouts combine yoga, Pilates, and ballet. There is a lot of thigh work that's done at the barre, exercises for the core, push ups, as well as other upper body exercises performed with light weights but high reps. There is also a lot of stretching, focus on proper alignment, and balance work. Barre workouts have helped me a lot with lower back pain. They are really tough - probably the toughest workouts of all the workouts I do. There are quite a few DVDs out now, but I think it's hard to get all the different positions from a DVD, and I would recommend a class if at all possible. They are expensive, but studios often run specials and they often have Groupons, etc.
heheehe I love that you eat and know 된장!!! (ferm.beanpaste) Well, I guess it's natural lol. And I agree that something is better than nothing at all! even a walk can make all the difference, not just for our bodies, but our minds as well. :)
ReplyDeleteYes, it's one of my favorites! :)
DeleteAnd, yes, exercise is so important for body & mind!
I keep trying to plan workouts and plan meals for the week ahead, and just struggle to follow through with it. I try to tell myself I'll run 4-5 times a week, and then hold myself to that number, running on the days I feel best. Usually, my pup holds me to it :)
ReplyDeleteIt's good to have someone to hold you to it! :)
DeleteYUM! Great week of eats!
ReplyDeleteI hate exercise ruts. Since I have a set routine, this happens to me a lot.
Usually I will just change up one class a week that I may be bored with. I will run instead of spin or do yoga in place of body pump. It usually works.
Changing one class per week sounds like a good idea!
DeleteThanks for the shout out Andrea - hope you like the roasted cabbage as much as we did.
ReplyDeleteHubby and I were just talking about scheduling work outs and such this morning. My morning routine includes walking for 3 miles outside or doing 30 minutes on the treadmill depending on the weather. On the weekends we have been going for hikes on one day. It's working out with weights that gets put on the back burner for both of us! Not enough hours in the day to do it all. :)
It's so easy to not get to the weight workouts. As I said above, I always have to make a conscious effort to get my weight workouts in and to change them up enough to truly challenge myself.
DeleteLove the cabbage idea. My workouts like my menu is a mish mosh. I find without a roadmap for each/both I am lost.
ReplyDeleteYes, planning is essential! :)
DeleteThis week has been a pain for planning workouts. I am hoping next week works out better, but I think I will have to wait until the week after. Ryan will be heading out of town soon and I think I can fit more in when I am not busy wanting to spend all my free time with him. Since we just got back into town I am busy catching up on things I put on hold while we were away. It will all balance out sooner or later! Hope you had a good week.
ReplyDeleteYes, it will balance itself out! Enjoy your time with Ryan!
DeleteI LOVE the photos Andrea, thank you for sharing. WOW...the toddler is getting bigger and bigger by the post! Enjoy your Thursday.
ReplyDeleteThanks! :) Hope you had a great Thursday!
DeleteGreat meal plan Andrea!
ReplyDeleteI figure out my menu for the week when I go to the store. Although this week, I'm going to try to make things every day that I've never made before - I've kind of gotten in a rut of making the same things lately!
Have a great weekend!
Thanks, Jenn!
DeleteI tend to make a lot of the same foods. It's good to switch things up once in a while! :)
Hope you are having a great weekend!
I've always wanted to try a barre class. I hear they are killer. I heard one woman say she took one class and her muscles were just quivering like Jell-O! Too bad our regular gym doesn't offer them yet.
ReplyDeleteYes, barre classes are pure torture! :) I actually think they offered a barre-type class for a little while at our gym sometime last year. But before I could give it try, it had disappeared from the schedule... :(
