I also planted some herbs:

I can’t wait for everything to (hopefully) grow and thrive. Of course, there are never any guarantees, and I have had my fair share of disappointments when it comes to growing herbs, flowers, and vegetables. Keeping my fingers crossed…
On to this week’s meals. I am trying to really watch our grocery budget, and I’ll be using quite a few things from the freezer and pantry this week. It’s not the most exciting menu, but I was able to spend a lot less at the grocery store…
Meal 1: Roasted veggies & baked chicken (using some organic chicken that I froze a while ago when it was on sale).
Meal 2: Bok choy/tofu stir fry & brown rice.
Meal 3: Pizza – shortcut with TJ’s whole wheat pizza dough. Toppings: sautéed onions & mushrooms and a little cheese. We’ll also have a salad.
Meal 4: Potstickers – I froze a bunch when I made them last time. I’ll cook them in some vegetable broth with veggies.
Meal 5: Big salad with “refrigerator finds.”
And now on to this week’s workouts.
- 2 barre classes
- 1 long(er) cardio session
- 1 HIIT session
- 2 weight workouts – I’ve been working on mixing things up, but I’ll be looking at a more formal plan sometime soon.
Be well,
Andrea
After I was putting our groceries away this weekend, I decided next week I am only going to buy fresh fruit and eat out of pantry and fridge - um, I have two refrigerators full of food for only 3 people! So crazy!
ReplyDeleteYour menu sounds delish!
It's amazing how much food we accumulate in our fridge & pantry...
DeleteAccumulating food? Are you talking about me? Yes, I sure stock a lot of food, even being only the two of us, we have 2 refrigerators, and they are full size!!! Since juice every morning, the vegetable and fruits sure go fast...so I am always buying produce.
ReplyDeleteHope you have a wonderful week ahead...and you menu Andrea, sounds really good as always :)
I guess we all like to keep a lot of food around... :) And, yes, with daily juicing and/or smoothies, we also go through a lot of produce.
DeleteHave a great week, too!
Your weekly meal plan looks similar to our normal one. It looks well balance and delicious. Looks like you have a good week ahead :)
ReplyDeleteThanks! :)
DeleteIt's hard to keep grocery budgets under control these days. I used to record what we spent, but that just got really tedious. Now I just work hard to eat what we have, as much as possible, before going to the grocery store and buying more!
ReplyDeleteYour plants look great. Nick and I did some planting this weekend too. I hope your herbs thrive!!
Yes, eating everything we have before buying more works! Sometimes it means meals aren't as "interesting" as they could be, but we always have plenty of veggies, and that's what really counts in my book...
DeleteHope your plants thrive, too! :)
YUM! Great week of eats.
ReplyDeleteI definitely do better with budget when I plan meals around the ad. Overall though, I am still not as good with my grocery budget as my mom. She is a coupon pro.
Yes, planning meals around what's on sale and in season works! Will be really working on that...
DeleteBeautiful flowers. Funny to think you spent the weekend planting flowers and I was outside shoveling snow!
ReplyDeleteThanks! I grew up in a cold climate, and I'm very thankful for California weather at this point. But I do miss the seasons at times...
DeleteThe flowers make me wish it's Spring. So colorful.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite flowers are roses.
I try to watch my grocery budget a bit but I don't save on meat, fruits and vegetables. I buy those at specialized stores but at the supermarket I watch prices.
I love roses, too. Especially pink, orange, and yellow ones.
DeleteAt our next house, I'm determined to have a garden!
ReplyDeleteYou should! Seeing my plants grow makes me happy! :)
Deletei have a REALLY hard time keeping the grocery store visits cheap. i tend to say it is okay though because we rarely eat out and i pack my food for the whole day at work. it is still tough though and i am only buying food for 2 people each week. it would be even scarier if we had kids! btw your garden looks great!
ReplyDeleteWe also hardly ever eat out and I pack everyone's lunches every day, and that's certainly one way I justify a higher grocery bill...
DeleteI love potted plants and flowers, and fresh herbs always make me think of my mom. Actually, I guess all potted plants make me think of her! When we were living in the Bay Area, we really got into making our little patio pretty to look at. We spent a lot of money and time on flowers, herbs, plants, and even a lemon tree. Then when we moved to Seattle, we found out that one of the things the movers couldn't take were plants, so I had to give all of them away! It broke my heart and I'm still traumatized enough that I haven't tried to rebuild my collection.
ReplyDeleteSorry you had to let go of your plants! I can imagine how hard that must have been! Hope you'll start a new collection soon! :)
DeleteA HIIT session??? I give. What is that exactly?
ReplyDeleteHIIT = High Intensity Interval Training

I love all of your container planting! Since I am cooking for 4 adults I buy a lot of groceries at Costco and Sam's Club. Since Costco now carries a lot of Organic produce it is a good savings! I stopped buying groceries at my high priced neighborhood grocery store and opt instead to go to the discount store for my basic pantry items. We don't eat out very often and our college kids pack their lunches so I guess we are doing okay.
ReplyDeleteYes, I have been buying quite a bit of organic produce at Costco. I just have to make sure I don't get carried away and end up with too much...
DeleteI'm looking forward to my herb pot too. I'm envious that you are already starting. It's still in the 30s-40s around here.
ReplyDeleteYes, I bet you do miss the weather here at times! :)
