Mother’s Day Brunch Ideas

In the past, we have gone out for Mother’s Day, but we never really enjoyed it as it was always very crowded. So in the past few years, we usually had brunch at our place for Mother’s Day.

For me the key to a successful brunch are plenty of dishes I can make ahead of time so that I’m not stressed the hour before guests arrive. Also, a few store-bought items make things a lot easier.
Here are some of my past brunch items that were a hit with everyone:

Mini Quiches

This is a very quick and easy dish. The quiches are crust-less and are baked in mini muffin tins. They come together in no time.

Banana Pancakes with Strawberry Sauce

This is one of my favorite pancake recipes. It uses very ripe bananas in place of butter or oil. The strawberry sauce adds a nice touch and is very easy – simply cook some frozen strawberries with a little bit of sugar. So good yet so easy.

Mini Apple Crisps

Apple Crisp 09
The crisps are a healthy dessert and perfect for a brunch. You could even make them in mini ramekins.

Egg/Tofu Scramble with Spinach and Mushrooms

This is a very flavorful and healthy egg dish. However, it’s a dish you should prepare fresh for your guests. I would only include one made-to-order item on a brunch menu. Otherwise things can get a bit stressful.

Fruit Salad

Fruit salad is always popular at a brunch. I choose ripe fruit and add just a bit of lemon juice to keep the fruit from turning brown. I usually make the fruit salad first thing when I get up and put it in the fridge.

Tomato/Mozzarella/Basil Skewers

These skewers toothpicks are flavorful and pretty. I buy the mini mozzarella balls at Trader Joe’s to make these. Sometimes, I buy the ones that are marinated for some extra flavor.

Grilled Cheese Sandwiches

I have a very inexpensive sandwich maker. Making grilled cheese sandwiches with interesting fillings is easy and quick and always enjoyed by everyone.

Banana Bread

This is my favorite banana bread recipe. It has no added fat, just lots of ripe bananas, which makes the bread nice and moist. You can make this the day before.

Questions: Do you have any plans for Mother’s Day? What’s your favorite brunch item?

Be well,

  1. Perfect brunch menu .. awsm display .making me hungry :) My mom is in India and I am here in US .. so yeah no plan !

  2. Yum! This looks way better than tromping through the hordes at a crowded hotel brunch on Mother's Day.

Wonderful brunch ideas for Mother's day. I love the sound of those apple mini crisps especially.

My parents are on a tour now and they'll be back on Sunday night, so we might have dinner together.
Fav brunch food? anything that involves egg and cheese! ;)

  5. Really greats ideas! I love the mini quiches and the mini apple crisps. :)

  6. how sad is it, I just realized YESTERDAY that Sunday was Mother's Day.

I've been so busy planning my teenager's HS graduation and his prom and what not I totally didn't realize it was just round the corner.

    your brunch looks absolutely PERFECT.

    I'll stop by...say around 2?

  7. We never do much for Mother's Day, which is OK. The kids typically make me breakfast in bed which I enjoy! All your brunch items look like winners!!

  8. Those mini quiche look perfect! As does the banana bread and tomato and mozzarella skewers...the perfect balance of sweet and savory!

I am spending the morning with my mom - she wants to go to church and then cook out before I have to hit the that's what I'll be up to :) Happy early Mother's Day!

  9. Hi Andrea, thanks so much for this. I'll be making my Mom brunch on Sunday and will keep some of these in mind. Have a great day.

  10. These all look great. I love brunch so I always enjoy Mother's Day. this year I will get a once in a lifetime chance to celebrate the day with my grandmother in Israel. I didn't even realize that until today, and luckily I had time to buy a card. I can't remember the last time I was with her on the actual day. Would be nice to see my mom, but she is back in the US.

  11. I'm so impressed! Everything looks lovely, delicious, and full of vibrant colors. Now I'm thinking I should make something for my mom, instead of buying dinner like I was planning.... we'll see!
I wrote my mom a nice poem this year. She told me a couple months ago that she misses my poems, so I figured that would be the perfect gift.

  12. Brunch is my favorite meal! It has all the sweetness and delicacy of breakfast but also has room for savories and sterner stuff. And dessert. That apple crumble especially looks delish! Just wondering -- at brunch, do you lean more toward the breakfast or lunch half? Hehe, I'm a breakfast leaner.

  13. What a great idea! I should give this post to my husband for some hints and tips!

  14. Not much of Mother's Day person but love your menu (and as Mimi said above love brunch). Those mini quiches sound great as do the apple crisps. Wish I was invited.

  15. good suggestions! I won't be able to see my mom this weekend, but i'm going to send my dad this post for ideas :)
