Workout Reevaluation

Remember my 2010 goals? One of them was to take some exercise classes. I had given myself until February, after the January gym craziness had passed, to take some classes. Well, February came and almost went without my taking any exercise classes. Almost that is. Because yesterday I took a Bootcamp class! I didn’t take it alone but dragged Lara from Thinspired with me. Sorry Lara! :-) (Lara had at one point been under the impression that we were going to take a yoga class. I know, quite a difference…).

It was quite an intense 60 minute workout. We did all sorts of planks, squats, pushups, lunges, jumping jacks – and we didn’t take many breaks. I was seriously warmed up after a minute, and there were a few times when I thought there was no way I could make it…

But I felt great afterward and knew that I hadn’t pushed myself like that in a loooong time. The instructor had warned us that we’d be sore, but I felt fine yesterday. Now, this morning is a different story. I felt quite sore when I woke up, but as I’m moving around more, it’s getting a bit better. What’s more, I secretly actually like the soreness…

I have been working out about six times per week for the past nine months now, and I have known for quite some time that I needed to mix things up a bit. And I have made small changes over the months. But I don’t think they have been enough. My new goal is to take one whole body workout class and one yoga class per week. We’ll see how it goes…

One thing I noticed yesterday was that I was quite hungry for the rest of the day. In the afternoon, I tried another of the Amazing Grass samples that I received a while back - the Chocolate Peanut Butter Protein bar.

I LOVED this bar. I loved the taste, and I loved that it has 12 grams of protein. I’ll definitely pick up some more.

Questions: Are you happy with your workout routine? If not, what should you change? Do you take exercise classes? If yes, which classes are you taking and how often?

  1. I'm not happy with my workout because I have no schedule, I just go whenever I urge a sweat or when I have time. I need to work on that, to make it a priority in my day other than work. When I go to exercise class, I feel more motivate, like spinning class. I also want to do a whole body workout at least once a week.

  3. I think I need to take a bootcamp class, they alway sound so great.
    I'm good with my current workout, but I miss my enjoyable exercise I can do in fresh warm air. I'm a total wuss in the cold, so I'm patiently waiting for my good friend spring to show up.

  4. I'm pretty happy with my workout routine lately. About a month ago, i've actually started doing 10 min bootcamp workouts with some 15 minutes of cardio. I'm loving it so far.

  5. Glad you made it to a class. My new years goals were to work out at least 4 days per week in some capacity and so far I have made it most weeks to 5 days. I have not done any classes because they are offered to accommodate the work schedule of most military members so classes are too early or too late for me since I finish work at 2:30 and classes are later. But, starting in March I am adding in weight training hopefully now that I have managed 50 mins of cardio 5 days a week. Good luck with your class attendance.

  6. I would love to take exercise classes, but I refuse to pay for them. My gym at home doesn't charge for classes, but the UGA gym does. Right now I run and do a few p90x workouts. Every once in a while I'll throw in some ballet...I do some barre warmups and then just make it up as I go. It gets my calves really good!

  7. I like the soreness, too ;) Except for in my abs. For some reason I have never liked feeling sore there.

    I'm so glad we went!

    I have those bars in my cupboard and haven't tried them yet. Maybe I'll try that flavor today.

    I also hope to do more classes in 2010, and just try new fitness things in general.

  8. I love switching up my exercise and trying new things! Just today I rode my bike, something I haven't done in at least 9 months. Love soreness too. It makes me feel like I'm really working my body and getting stronger.

  9. Glad you switched things up and had fun! Bootcamp classes always sound good to does yoga. My exercise is limited right now so I just go for long walks. I miss my dance classes and want to try zumba one day!

  10. I am pretty happy with my schedule. I do need to add in more cardio and a little more strength training. But other than that...I do yoga/elliptical or treadmill 3xs a week and I have been doing pilates 2xs a week.

  11. I changed it up last week by adding weights back into the routine. I plan to keep that up for 4 weeks at the very least...

    Bootcamp classes are tough but fun!

  12. Good for you! I love boot camp! I gave up my gym membership after starting such a demanding job so far from home -- I just couldn't justify the time or gas to add on another 15 minute there and back trip to workout each day. But I MISS the classes -- they're my favorite. They always challenge me to do something new. Otherwise, ti's stricktly running and hockey. I'm really bad about weight lifting -- I need to improve. Badly!

    I love mixing it up with my workouts....most of the time, I'm pretty happy with my workout schedule, but the last week has been a bit off, so I'm hoping to get back to some normalcy soon. I don't do the same thing each week, though, I mix it up based on my mood...any week I might be doing boot camp, walking outside, body flow, strength training classes, treadmill....etc. It keeps me from getting bored.

  14. I love that you and Lara worked out together...and met up!! OMG I want to come next time and once i am back in SD hopefully soon (if our house sells soon!) thats not toooo much of a stretch :)

    that AG bar is really good u r so right!

    workouts. walk, run, yoga, chase my kid around LOL
