Cheese of the Week

Well, if you have been reading this blog for a while, you know how much I love cheese. A while back, I discovered that Whole Foods has a basket of "Bits and Pieces" of cheese, and I have been buying a piece or two from the basket almost every time I shop at WF. Last week, I picked up these two:

One was an Aged Brick Cheese. I don't think I had ever had Aged Brick Cheese before. It was a very pungent cheese and reminded me of Limburger. I ate just a tiny bit at a time, but I liked it. The rest of the family stayed away from it... The other was a Monterey Jack Habanero; it was spicy, but not too spicy - a very nice cheese. The family gave it the thumbs up! :o)

It is so much fun to try new cheeses. These two have lasted me almost two weeks. I get my cheese fix at an affordable price, and the small pieces are built in portion control. I call this a win-win situation! :o)

  3. bits & pieces of cheese is such a great get to try newe varieties without getting too much! Last cheese I had was mozzarella....of course, loved it!

  4. we played cards last night with friends and we were given a new goat cheese to try with sun dried tomato and herbs

    I ADORE cheese but have a different relationship with it now!


    btw, I think we are making your salmon cakes for lunch today!

    last cheese? parmesan last night!~~~
    I don't usually eat cheese plain, I dunno ... can't get used to the flavor. I prefer softer cheese like mozzarella. :)

  6. I have been eating raw cheddar cheese and liking it. I have been staying away from dairy for a while and just started adding it back to my diet. I haven't tried very many different kinds of cheese.

  7. I had no idea Whole foods did that. I will keep that in mind! I usually get my cheese at Trader Joe's, and I'm a newbie at the cheese thing. I used to do only fat free, pasteurized cheese :) About 4 months ago I started buying REAL cheese and now I'm addicted to Swiss, and the lite havarti from Trader Joe's. Oh, and mozzarella in the form of a cheese stick :)

    I actually had american cheese for lunch...not really cheese!! One of my favorites is really good sharp white cheddar - yum!!

    That's cool :) I was looking at cheese the other day and found a section with individually portioned packs of all kinds of cheese. I got some goats cheese for this week :D The last 'real' cheese I had (I eat laughing cow a lot but don't class that as cheese!) was feta, salad with butternut squash, hummus and omega seed mix. Delish :D

    I had parm on my portabella pizzas a few days ago. I'm making them again tonight and am having mozz for sure this time! I'm already excited. Over cheese. I hope that's not sad.

  12. I love the endless amounts of cheese selection at Whole Foods!! There's this cheddar I love to get all the time. I can't remember the name, but I remember the logo. I think it's from Ireland, too.

    The last cheese I was was some plain ol' swiss from Tillamook. I liked it as usual. nothing special about that one.

    I get those bits and pieces to from my natural foods market, and recently got the Queso Fresco, a fresh Mexican cheese. I tried a bite and it was yummy! I think I'll try it in a taco salad :)

    the last piece of cheese I ate was swiss. It was my first time trying swiss. Not a huge fan :\ no flavor to me.

  16. Ha! Love it. Maybe you know I have Cheese of the Month going on now. So the last cheese I ate was French Etorki. I will write about it on Oct. 1. I had never heard of it before, but really liked it shaved in a salad...
    Great post. I'm a fan of Whole Foods too.

  17. The last cheese I ate was a Tex Mex blend on some triscuits. I thought this was a decent way to feed a Nacho craving.

    I had a Gouda with Cumin Seed in Germany this past summer. It was heavenly.

  18. I'm eating cheese right now!! Kraft natural blend of swiss/provolone and Parmesan - i like! That is smart of Whole Foods - I didn't know they did that!
